I hate it when they always say

"Why" when People are asking for a price.

I used to find it annoying, but now I actually think its a good question. "You want $3,500 for this? Why should I pay $3,500 for it?"

reply

They are also looking at how desperate they are to sell something, the more desperate the less they will offer.

"WHY?"

*opened mouth stare*

I posted the exact same thing not too long ago. It is very rude and comes off as confrontational. They could just as easily say, "how did you arrive at that number".... They do it just because they can...

reply

It's a cheap negotiating tactic to get the person to say how much they need, so they can get it as cheap as possible.

Some pawn shops say, "I can't pay that" instead.

Seriously though, you only take stuff to sell at a pawn shop if you're desperate because they're ALWAYS going to low-ball you and want to pay you peanuts for your gear.

On my 21st birthday I got a couple of good quality boom boxes from relatives so I kept the Panasonic one and wanted to sell the Sony one.
In the Dept store it was selling for $149.99. I was trying to get $70 but the pawn shop offered me $20 even though it was in an unopened stapled box.
I said, "no way" and walked out.

I later used the Sony as a gift for someone.
