Dirk...spoilers

I watched this on Netflix today and it was a cute story, a glimpse at life for aging friends who, understandably, don't want to lose their independence. They hire a young guy to help with dog sitting while he is in school studying ethnology.

Without fail, he finds himself in some intense conversations with various characters. The one below had me laughing so hard. The characters' delivery and facial expressions are so worth watching the movie.

Dirk and Jane's character are walking the dog in the park.

Jane: How's your new thesis coming?

Dirk: I have an outline. Mainly, it's about what it means to be elderly in Europe with the focus on contemporary attitudes toward seniors. The statistics make it seem like an invasion.

Jane: Will you include a chapter on sexuality?

Dirk: Yes, I'd like to.

Jane: So?

Dirk: So what?

Jane: I don't know. Do you think I still have sex with my husband, for example?

Dirk: I don't know.

Jane: (laughs) You need some raw data.

Dirk: I know. It's a delicate topic.

Jane: I rarely make love with Albert but I frequently masturbate.

Dirk: (look of being uncomfortable)

Jane: Ask me questions. Don't be shy.

Dirk: I'm not prepared.

Jane: (laughs) Improvise!

Dirk: Do you...

Jane: Take the plunge! Explode the myth that old people are sexless. We're not angels, damn it!

Dirk: When you fantasize, do you think more about men you know or strangers?

Jane: Either old men I know or young strangers.

But, when I masturbate, I mostly think about my lover.

Dirk: You have a lover?

Jane: I did. We broke up forty years ago. I still see him sometimes, as frienDirk, I mean. Just enough to fantasize.

The dog goes running off and the dog sitter can't get off the park bench fast enough to go chase him.
