What exactly did Conrad land himself in prison for. I know that he told James that he would do anything to have his freedom again and was like a mentor to James,

James asked him if he really killed 5 people. I'll be honest, I didn't pay very close attention to the movie so I'm not sure if that's what landed him in prison or if he meant he killed 5 people while in prison.

I think one of the guards said he killed 5 people on the outside and then killed 2 more on the inside
