Discovery is showing this again and the Cody and Joe seasons were worse than I remember.

Wow, Cody and Joe were bad. Joe with his stupid ass trite military expressions. Cody deliberately doing the most slow, methodical and annoying stuff, seemingly just to get under Joe's skin. Nothing of value in any of it.

Once Matt came along, he put Joe in his place from their first episode together. Not by directly "putting him in his place" so much as just being so much better - at everything - without any drama. So satisfying to watch.
