I'd love to see an urban survival episode

I'm still shocked that they haven't done an urban survival episode, along the lines of a natural disaster, terrorism, pandemic, or economic collapse.

It just seems to me that most people aren't going to have to worry about finding their way out of a jungle in Borneo. If you live in a urban or suburban area there is a good chance you will have to deal with a natural disaster, or riots. I'd rather see these guys show people how to find water, scavenge for food and evade looters, and thugs if the *beep* hits the fan

That would be great. But I'm not sure it would fit if they are bound and determined to stick with the "dramatic" format. They would have to depend on demonstrating survival skills without all the arguing.

I'm not so sure about that. There are tons of possibilities and directions to take in an episode like this.

If the episode lets them start inside a house rather than the street or nearby woods there would be plenty of "dramatic" material with the decisions on what to pack in a "Sh#$ hits the Fan" pack as well as whatever else they might decide to take on the way out.

If there is lots of water in the area do you take bottled water or do you take purification tablets(I would take some anyway) and/or a LifeStraw to reduce weight?

You have a tent. Do you take it or a couple of tarps and garbage bags and build your own shelter later?

Depending on the terrain features you have a decision on how far away from civilization you want to travel for safety from humans while still keeping some semblance of natural resources to utilize to help extend your chances of survival.

This is an episode that I think Joe would have been good in especially if it's one where they have supplies.

Some of your examples sound like they would be better suited to Dirty Rotten Survival. Plus they would have to ditch the 72 hour format that someone with the show seems to be in love with. They COULD do urban survival, but again I think a show like that would have to center more around the how and what (as you said what to bring) rather than the current keep moving or stop and refresh argument.

I can't see a lot of arguments on what to take. Either they would have a car and could load up, or they would be on foot and would be limited by what they could (or would want) to carry. The argument would simply be "you want it, you carry it." LOL

Also, a natural disaster would probably be cost prohibitive to shoot, so they would be limited in what they could depict. It would have to show them preparing before, and out in the boonies afterwards. Large scale rubble would be too expensive, although foraging in said rubble would make for a cool show.

I know Bear Grylls did an urban survival but that was mostly just him charging around in an old factory of supposedly unknown structural integrity. I don't think he did much more than find his way out to the street.

Maybe they could do something like the TV show The Colony from 2009?
