Used 2 b good...Now obviously fake...

After tonights episode it should be obvious that this "season" of the show is FAKE, and possibly scripted. If you watch the scene where they kill the hog, you'll see that the hog was already 'caught'. Hit slo-mo and it's obvious that the hog is already snared around the back leg. The snare pulls tight on the rear leg, stopping the forward progress of the hog, and only then does the dude jump up and grab its leg. FAKE FAKE FAKE Why do they insult the fans of the show w/ this BS season? I say bring back Cody Lundin... He was the best part of this show (also I recommend his books if you haven't read them) With Matt Graham being my second favorite, I would love to see a show w/ Cody and Matt working together. They could call it Primitive Survival.

I can't say this as an absolute fact because I don't work for the show, but I suspect its always been fake and scripted to some degree. Do you really think they would send out a crew and tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment without knowing what they were getting into? I would think they would at least have a rough idea of what they wanted to shoot to create a given episode long before they get on the plane to go to the location. And they have always just happened to find rescue at exactly the right time. I have often wondered how much they pay someone to stand out in a field with his cows waiting for the guys to show up.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment ricka. The convenient rescue as you've brought up, the constant protocol of the hippy wanting to lounge around, while the military dude always has to keep moving, the always procuring game and water when most needed.

I have somewhat of a sportsman's background, and I can tell you this. Even heading out with the latest and greatest gear does not guarantee anything, even when the hunter actually knows how to hunt without scaring off the game. Dave Canterbury mentioned that he had to set 10 or 15 traps in order to catch one animal on average. And I can't tell you how many times I've gone fishing using modern tackle and bait to come home with absolutely nothing. Yet these guys decide in the morning that they will have a pig for dinner, and by gum, by evening they have one!

Don't get me wrong, I like the show. And I think that these shows serve a purpose in teaching people survival skills. My main problem with them is that they probably give the impression to the gullible among the audience, that survival is far easier than it is in reality.

Maybe, but those are probably the people who wouldn't survive anyway. LOL

Well, I suppose a thinning of the weak among the herd never hurt anything 🐑 

I agree with the above, this show has always been scripted to a degree. This has been common with reality shows since they first began to appear, so I don't know why people still get so surprised and enraged about it. It's simply more economical to set up shots and film them than it is to follow people around 24/7 and hope something happens.

If you just look at this show as a demonstration of survival techniques with some personality clashes thrown in, you'll be much less disappointed.

Exactly. They can't just drop off the cast and crew and HOPE that an episode comes together. Not to mention the fact that I'm sure they often have to do multiple takes to get a shot right. I wonder if the OP also considers that to be faked because they aren't showing things happen spontaneously?

That title might be considered a little too close to Primal Survivor which currently airs on National Geographic channel. 

That pig wasn't a wild hog, it was a domesticated hog, that's why it had no fear of humans around, and most of the animal kills were fake on this show, I mean you really think that animals just happened to show up in their traps overnight, even the fishing is faked at times, they'd pull the fish out of the water and yet the fish wouldn't fight. Everyone knows that reality shows are scripted. And Primal Survivor is a new show coming out soon

By including the scenario I think it's pretty obvious that it's scripted to a large degree. Their route is already predetermined and the animal trapping/killing is always staged as well as just about every wild life encounter they have. They never show the wild dangerous creature in the same frame as the two guys, it's just cooked footage that they're acting along with.

That being said this show is more about showing what decisions can help you survive in these situations, not that they're actually surviving. Notice each time they have an idea both guys take an opposite stance, what they're doing is staging the pros and cons of the action and in which situations you should take the risk. A lot of it comes off as pretty cheesy and lame but there's some good info to be found still at least, but no, not reality at all.

The only real survivor out there is Survivorman. Cody was a legit survivalist as well, even though he still did goofy stuff, because he NEVER advocated taking any sort of risk at all. Which is always the right move in a real survival situation. The reality of survival is most people who are saved get saved because they stayed put and didn't do anything at all.

One big clue that it is scripted is that in pretty much every show, someone says something along the lines of "He wants to keep moving and go barging through the jungle, but I want to slow down and take advantage of our resources". Or something like that. Because that is the theme of the show, after all.

I still can't get warmed up to these Naked and Afraid guys, they bore me. They're even making me miss Grady. Is he scheduled to come back, or we stuck with these two now?

I agree that most Survival shows are partly scripted (or planned) before hand. They'll obviously scout an area before hand so they aren't going in completely blind. Especially with Dual Survival where they are given items at the beginning to play the role of someone in a certain situation, and then show how those items can be used in some way.

But since these two Naked and Afraid guys have become hosts I've really gone off it though, and it just seems obviously fake and scripted. They are too over the top and trying to play characters shouting and screaming all the time. And many people have said their methods are far more risky and are giving bad advice. And to be honest I can't stand them anymore - I actually gave up watching it after about 3 episodes because they are so annoying. And I've never stopped watching a series if it gets slightly worse - I always keep watching from the beginning to the end of a season and then decide.

But for now I'm done with Dual Survival until some of the better hosts come back. I've tried watching more of the latest episodes but I just skimmed through it because I couldn't bother wasting my time watching EJ and Jeff. I quite liked Grady and especially the Kiwi Bushman so I hope they come back. Hopefully these new hosts wont end up killing off the show completely before they have a chance to bring some better people back.

I really, really, really hope the idea isn't to turn over the show to these guys permanently. Nothing personal against them, but they don't fit well into this format. Plus I don't want to see Discovery's recycled reality stars.

Here is what producer Christo Doyle said about the hosts and the direction of the show:

I couldn't agree more the latest season is so bad I cannot watch it. Was one of my favorite shows.
