I'm going to miss these boards

IMDb Message Boards Announcement

IMDb is the world’s most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb’s message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.

Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb’s social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb’s editors and one another.

I'm going to miss these boards and all of the fun and acquaintances that I had while here. I don't have Facebook or Twitter, but if they provide the same, or a similar experience to these boards, then I will sign up.

Facebook does indeed have pages/groups for many TV shows. I'm just home from work for a few minutes, but tonight, I'm going to make a list of all the boards here that I follow and see if there is a corresponding page on Facebook. I have an idea for setting up a page of my own, but still have some details to consider. I will post something on it before the weekend is over.

Sounds good ricka. I suppose the ideal situation is to try and congregate at the same place that most of the people that frequent the IMDB boards plan on going over to following the shutdown.

I went ahead and made a group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1838076323134738/ I figured I'd make it for all survival shows since many of us watch several different ones.

Good deal 👍 I'll have to create a Facebook account.

Do it before these forums go away. If you have any trouble finding the group, let me know and I'll help.

Thanks ricka, I saved the link. I will probably do it within the next day or two. Good to see that you posted notice over at Survivorman as well. I'll try and make my username the same or similar to my IMDB identity if I can.

The ideal situation would be a seamless integration over to social media where most everyone heads over to mostly the same sites, and are identifiable by the same or a similar name. But being new to social media, I don't know how well this would work in practice.

Here's another option. Someone took the time to set up an IMDB 2.0 forum. I haven't fully checked it out yet, but I know that they have a subforum for another show that I follow already set up. I just set up a Facebook account, but I think I'm going to set up an account over there as well, under the same username if possible. If not, I'll put my former username in my signature.

I looked at IMDB2 and searched. The results said "Found no posts for..." Seemed like it only searches for posts and not folders or headings or whatever you want to call them. Either need to find another way of searching, or just start browsing folders.

Yes, the site is not really set up yet in terms of subforums for each show ricka. Here's another one that looks promising, and you can request a subforum for specific tv shows. I will sign up at this one as well. I will also go to your facebook page. I posted these links because I know that some people don't want to use facebook. Also, best I can tell, social media won't provide quite the same experience as what we're used to having here.

So glad you set up a FB group. I just sent a join request. The IMDB forums for the various survival shows are the ones I will miss most. We seem to have good discussions and in general everyone is truly interested in the shows. I.E. not just a troll trying to see how much hate and discontent they an stir up like so many forums of current movies or more mainstream TV shows.

THANK YOU!!!

I've been saving links to the alternatives that people are posting. I think only time will tell how well they are going to work out.

That sounds like a good strategy ricka. I knew that once the boards were going to be dismantled, that there would be a mad scramble by many to set up an alternative, and that there would be members scattered all over the place. I'll monitor the various links and see how they're shaping up over time. I mostly followed these survival shows, but I did follow a few others as well, so I will miss having everything all neatly organized in one convenient place.

Btw, here's another link to add to the archives that also looks pretty good. Looks like a paid site, and was said to contain all the shows.

Best replacement forum I have found so far

Of all of the forums that I have come across so far, this one looks to be the closest to what we have here, and they already have a good many of the same shows in their database. Many of the forums are still small, but it's growing, and if enough of us migrate over to the site, we can build it up quick enough.

It also doesn't appear to be overly moderated, and it looks like you can actually have some fun.
