Superman Vs. Darksied...I'm confused....

In Justice League Unlimited, Superman said he always holds back a little with his power. Then proceeded to beat the crap out of Darksied when he 'cut loose' and decided NOT to hold back.
So how come he didn't do that in this movie? Although I like the fight between the two, I thought Supes would end up beating him. But they made it where the fight may have gone on forever, had he not pushed Darksied back into the portal.

I don't read the comics, just watch the films. So does anybody know...Is Superman stronger than Darksied or not?

reply

Darkseid has similar strength to Superman.

While I'm a huge Superman fan, I begrudgingly had to kind of agree with how this movie portrayed Darksied's power. Darksied is, for all intents and purposes, a god. He has lived for thousands of years and is a member of the pantheon of New Gods. As such, he should really have almost no equal in strength/power except for other gods.

Like all comic stories, power levels fluctuate badly to further the story. In the comic book for this story line, Superman snaps and flies Darksied right next to the sun and then kicks his ass. Unfortunately, these types of things don't translate well to movies, or the writers just haven't come up with a good way to spell certain aspects out to casual fans that will watch a movie but not read the comic.

Having said all that, I too, fully expected Supes to go nuts at seeing Kara unconscious in the field and at least come close to winning, but darksied seemed no worse for wear after Spuerman's onslaught. Oh well.

reply

I agree also that they drastically alter a characters power level for each different story. In fact, there is almost no continuity at all in the comics world. In a one on one all out no holds barred battle I think Darkseid would win. I think Superman could get some really good hits in especially if he is angered enough but I think he would lose. Plus, Darkseid has those Omega beams which should have done a LOT more damage to Superman and Kara especially at point blank range and for the length of time he continuously blasted them.

reply

Superman would win. Because he's the good guy. Good always win. Darkseid will get his butt kicked back to Apokolips.

reply

That's because the writer of the story will retcon or come up with some ridiculous way for the good guy to win...considering their powers and only their powers, Darkseid will win hands down.

reply

Still go with Superman.

not quite. there was an issue of of marvel zombies where zombie spiderman is sent to an alternate universe (and back in time) where his counterpart is just starting as spidey. a group of people are attacke by some villains, and zombie spidey eats them. the reanimated villains attack and consume the group, only sandman escapes unscathed.
then in an alley, normal spidey spots and interrogates sandman. sandman, in shock for seeing "spiderman" brutally murder his partners in crime, snaps and says "this isnt how its supposed to go! we fight, you win, i escape later on! but if you aint holding back, im not gonna hold back either" then proceeds to forcefeed spiderman with sand until he BURSTS. sandman killed that universe spiderman with ease.

thats something that always intrigued me. WHY dont super(villains) kill the hero? they hve the means.

the heroes do too, but yeah, theyre the good guys and killing is wrong. even if killing a mass murderer saves thousands (the joker).

i think all heroes and villains have the thanos syndrome, in that the villains sabotage themselves, and that heroes will never really do what it takes to do the right thing (ie, kill. batman in the dark knight returns realizes that ("all the people ive killed... by letting you live").

the good guys win because the writers predictably make them win.
in rea life, good guys rarely win.

Well in this case you kinda have to seperate the two..these Animated DTV movies are not related to any of the JLU, Batman or Superman animated series. I know sometimes it can get a lil confusing esp when they sometimes use the same voice actors. Anyway what happened in all those animated series have no bearing on the DTV movies..two different animated universes.

reply

Superman can't take Darkseid by himself but using the full range of all his powers he could probably team up with at least one other hero and take him down.

reply

Read the graphic novel version, the fight is much better, and Supes definitely shows Darkseid why he shouldn't mess with them.

In the film it was a joke, Supes got his butt kicked and had to be saved and then taunts Darkseid as he's sent through the boomtube into space, like a kid who's just been saved from the school bully by the teacher while the teacher is dragging the bully away.

Bad ending to a bad comic book adaptation.

reply

In the comic Supes pushes him into the source wall. This wall is touched upon during the final scenes of the final ep of JLU.

reply

In the comic book, they fight in front of the Sun. That would augment Superman's powers and give him the edge to defeat Darkseid.

Whether it’s in a movie, a novel, a coloring book, a video game or any other media Superman ALWAYS win. He is Superman, he may not be perfect but he is good. Superman ALWAYS win. Doesn’t matter who he's fighting: Superman ALWAYS win, because, well because at the end Superman winning was is and will always be the whole point: the good guy wins, and if the good guy is Superman, then he will ALWAYS win.

What if this is as good as it gets? - Melvin Udall

reply

Well that's the rule of cinema and entertainment. The good guy always win. That's why action movies have no excitement...because you know that without a doubt whether the movie is "Bad Boys", "48 Hours", "Die Hard", "Crank", "The Other Guys", or any of the other 5 billion action flicks out there, you have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the good guy will win. It has to happen like that because the movie makers have rules they must abide by. This is where the viewers imagination comes in. We all know that in an all out slug fest Superman cannot beat Darkseid when both of them are at the full limit of their powers. That's why the movie writer has to come up with some nonsense to make the good guy win. But in reality you can be the good guy and get in the octagon with a UFC fighter and you're gonna get killed regardless...haha!!

if you dont like happy endings all the time or dont like the good guy winning all the time you should check out the outer limits tv show

The only thing that stops Superman from being the strongest being in the universe is the fact he holds back, which is why we will never see his true power, because of this, deep down he's still a good guy.

I loved the fights between Superman vs. Darkseid and Supergirl vs Darkseid. Both were pretty good.

reply

If Darkseid was truly stronger than Superman, he'd won already.

Superman >>> Darkseid.

reply

In the movie, Darkseid would have beaten them both.

He defeated Kara, even though she put up a good fight. He spared her life because he gave his word to Batman.

At the end when Superman comes back down, Darkseid concentrates his Omega Beams and burns Superman's face a bit, any longer and Superman would have been killed most likely.

They were able to send Darkseid through the boom tube.

Same thing happens to Darkseid in Justice League: War, even after blinding him they still had trouble taking him down, they had to send him back.

Even in the Justice League Unlimited finale, Darkseid cheats and uses the agony matrix on Superman when he can't take him physically. Lex Luthor interferes and makes them both disappear.

reply

No, In the comic book, Superman beats the crap out of Darkseid, then banishes him to the edge of the universe. Darkseid barely puts up a fight. And the part where Kara (suerpgirl) beats the crap out of Darkseid doesn't make any sense (she only has her powers for 2 - 3 months, way too soon to confront Darkseid). She was teleported out of danger before the omega beams hits her, because superman was anticipating Darkseid's return. Plus the a lot of members of the Justice League were helping. The movie is very good, although the ending is crap, and doesn't make any sense if you're really into comics, and the characters.

Batman mentions that Supergirl could be more powerful than Superman because she metabolizes sunlight faster, due to orbiting space for so long.

That's why in the comics, Superman needs the kryptonite ring to even the odds. Its a part of the movie I didn't like that they glossed over, but the kryptonite ring and future Superman are not in Public Enemies the movie.

I can see why they changed the final fight so it wasn't Superman and Darkseid. It works on paper for them to battle in front of the sun, with Superman mourning her fake death and Darkseid taunting him. But the Source Wall is kind of far out and random so they went in another direction.

I thought the final fight was extremely well animated, one of the best fights of all the DC animated movies.

reply

Batman says that in the movie, not the comic book. And Superman uses his Kryptonite ring to knock her out so that he doesn't have to fight her, which also makes a lot more sense than them beating the crap out of each other. (it was very weird that he was reasoning with her in the movie).

Yes I agree, the final fight is in fact very well animated, and compared to other DC movies, it might be one of the best fights. But it is not near as good as the fight/ending in the comic. Plus, her coming out as supergirl was way better in the comic book, and her speech was too good to be neglected in the movie.

I'm not saying the movie is bad, I gave it 9/10. I'm just annoyed with some minor details they over looked.

Darkseid is a villain that is often shown as fighting the entire Justice League. His species is known as the New Gods and they're one of, if not, the strongest species in the DC universe. He is most definitely at least as strong as Superman and often shown as stronger.
