Gordon from Gotham playing Bruce Wayne in this, Walter White as Gordon

As a fan since childhood of the original comic series I decided to try and show the animation to my girlfriend as a jumping on point to modern Batman and comics in general.

I watched this in 2011 when it came out but since then I have watched Breaking Bad and Gotham.

As soon as Lt. Gordon came on screen my girlfriend commented he looked like Walter White. I shrugged it off as a coincidence as the artwork is based on the comic art from the 80s...but then I did a double take as I realised it was Bryan Cranston's voice. Weird!

Then on came Bruce Wayne and his voice seemed familiar too...I checked IMDB and it was Ben McKenzie, i.e. Lt. Gordon from Gotham, a show that draws much of its influence from Batman Year One, even down to starring the young Lt. Gordon as opposed to the old Commissioner, as well as support characters such as Loeb etc

It just seems like too many coincidences. Was there a link between McKenzie playing Wayne in the cartoon based on the comic that later inspired the series in which he stars as the character played by Cranston in this? Do you think they tried to get Cranston, realised he was too old and probably too expensive, and went straight for the next voice actor in Year One?
