Can bruce wayne kick a full grown tree in half?

yes he can!

reply

Batman pushed down a giant stone statue in Batman TAS.

reply

I can't see why not.

Gotham Knights made it quite clear than he toured the world in search of becoming stronger and went on a learning process to gain knowledge as well as skill so as to be prepared to fight against a world of crime and terror! In India he learn for example to go beyond the normal physical pain limits and to push himself with inner reserves of spiritual energy almost, mind over matter etc. Although his teacher was later disappointed with Mr Wayne's goal of being taught these techniques and his life choice and reasons in using them to fight and survive in street gang and warfare like battles etc. Batman while having no superhuman powers can push himself physically to astounding levels of human capabilities practically.

That tree was quite big but it wasn't oak tree or redwood sized though. big tree, yes. full grown tree, no!

Actually no, there is no Martial Arts training or conditioning in the world that would strengthen the human body (especially the shin bone) to the point where a person could kick a tree in half.

That said however, this isn't a person... It's Batman, so I have no problem with his almost supernatural powers.

reply

Some say it was a dead tree.

reply

Oh i kicked down a dead Tree about that size, But big deal at that point it's like knocking down a prop.

reply

...he doesn't break the tree with one hit. He'd been working out on it for a while.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November
the Gunpowder Treason and Plot.

reply

That's true he could have been. He was out training in the snow wearing trackies.

Tiger Muy Thai training involves conditioning shins, forearms, and elbows by hitting banana trees. Eventually fighters become so conditioned they end up kicking down the trees after a practice session.

Karate knuckle training often involves wrapping thing rope around a hard tree or wooden pole and just punching it repeatedly year after year. There are also exercises that involve pushups done with knuckles.

Wayne was using this tree as a practice tree for many years. It's not inconceivable that eventually the tree might break.

Fellow martial artist here, just watched the movie last night. The practice that Nagumo2001 mentions with Muay Thai is real, however Asian Bannana Trees are much, much less thick and strong than the kind of tree that Wayne/Batman kicked down in the movie, something North American.

Perhaps he had been working on the tree for a while, and maybe it was dead or dying, rotted on the inside, but it didn't look it to me and even if the tree was halfway healthy he wouldn't have been able to do that, so it kind of took me out the movie.

Growing up I had a tree as a young man I would tie a pad around and hit, and I did that for years without affecting the tree, and that was a Japanese cherry. It wouldn't really matter who was hitting it, or how long, because it's impossible.

However this is a guy who can fight 50 armed men and get out of the line of fire of a bullet before the trigger is pulled, so it's fine.

yeah that part of the movie was ridiculous.

I like the story with Gordon but the Batman part sucked.

reply

"Tiger" Muay Thai is the name of a training camp, not a Martial Art. While it's true that Muay Thai does strengthen the shins through continual impact, the tree that Bruce kicks down is nothing like that in your youtube video.

The tree he kicks through with relative ease is absolutely ridiculous, but as I said before, I'm cool with that because he's Batman and is capable of the absolutely ridiculous.

Bruce could have only been using that tree for practice for a few weeks. He had been out of the country for the past twelve years.

This point makes it even all the more far-fetched! Good observation.

Not if it's an old dead tree.

Just think of the DC universe as one in which humans are stronger, faster and more durable than the one we live in. That's how I've always rationalized Batman's feats of daring-do.

reply

I agree that scene was a bit much.

reply

It's a movie from a comic. Also in real life a swat team wouln't drop multiple high explosives on a building to kill one man.

reply

I liked this scene. It was nice to see Bruce do something physical without gadgetry. And it worked for me. Because... as nonathletic as I am, when I was taking Kung Fu, one of our tests was to break a 1" thick board/plaque in half. And I did it with a flying sidekick. Shocked me when I did it successfully. So if I could do it with mere Kung Fu training and no special practicing, it didn't seem impossible that an athletic strong man could break the tree with practice.

Ever see what some of those Kung Fu masters break with just their fingertip?

The tree-kick was one of the few flaws with this otherwise excellent adaptation.

It was supposed to be a "rehearsal" of his superkick at the burned-out tenement, where he's really putting the full force of his entire body into the kick, but instead when he practices it in the movie it's more of a lazy swipe. I guess they wanted to save the "awesome" kick for later but that just makes the earlier, lazier one undermine its awesomeness.

Read Batman Year One to clear this up. He kicks a DRIED OUT old tree - still hard, but not impossible for his strength and skill. Batman is described as 6'2'' and 225lbs ripped, i.e. a big, strong but lean rugby player type body. He'd be able to bench, squat and deadlift 500lbs+ on all the lifts easy, having achieved the strength of an elite level olympic weightlifter in the 225lb class. That is VERY strong. It is not because of some mystical *beep* martial art skill. All you guys who think going to china and training with a monk will make you tough must be 12 years old. Nothing beats heavyweight raw power, that's why there are weight divisions.
