**Spoiler**

The professor was wrong, why did the detective suddenly like her and why did she get tenure? Her superior at the college told her to stay out of the case due to her being wrong, which she ended up being. So confused. (I thought she was wrong through the whole thing as well).

The detective didn't like being potentially shown up by an upstart non-detective (the professor). When it was found out she was wrong, the detective was no longer tense and threatened, so he decided he liked her then.

eve of destruction,
prof nicole got tenure bc she earned it.
She had been teaching at Los Angeles Univ for the required # of years, and had works published.

I dont remember the detective not liking her. He just wanted her to not interfere as he is the one trained in police work.
