I actually enjoyed the trailer, but I felt the execution of the story would best fit Street Fighter.
sharenot at alll!!! Mortal Kombat has ALWAYS been darker and bloodier than SF. dont get me wrong, i love SF, but have always loved MK much more. even out of the movies that have been made of both franchises, the MK ones were much darker than the SF ones.

I absolutely agree that MK is absolutely darker than the SF universe, but as you tactfully pointed out certain characters could be swapped to reflect SF. Both SF and MK have movie potential, but of course it heavily depends on quality writing and direction.
i think someone hasn't played Mortal Kombat at all or doesn`t know Street fighter.
You can't compare Street Fighter with MK, their are totally different beat`em up games.
this short shows how MK movies should be made from beginning: dark, violent, epic.
