The card trick at the beginning

Ok so this movie was pretty bad but one part that impressed me was the early scene where he shows the card the girl picked and lit up in the windows of the building. It was the same card I picked. 7 of diamonds. Just wondering if it was manipulated to make me pick that card or if it was just a coincidence? How many other people also picked the 7 of diamonds in that scene? Did they linger on the 7 to make me pick it? I need Morgan Freeman to explain it to me.

reply

It was the card I picked too!

reply

I picked 7 of diamonds as well.

Must be some kind of trick. Or just real magic.

reply

multiple 7 of diamonds next to eachother so it's easier to notice.

reply

Is that how they did it? That's actually quite brilliant.

reply

Nope, wrong...
There were no multiple 7 of diamonds, just the one. The difference is that the 7 of diamonds in that deck was slightly shorter by 1/16-1/8 of a inch than the other cards, so that when he flipped through the deck this card would hang for a split second. Just long enough for it to stick in your subconscious mind...

Actually, there is a trick. It was a real deck of cards, no multiple 7 of diamonds, just the one. The difference is that the 7 of diamonds in that deck was slightly shorter by 1/16-1/8 of a inch than the other cards, so that when he flipped through the deck this card would hang for a split second. Just long enough for it to stick in your subconscious mind...
You're 100% wrong, I've watched it several times in slow motion, doing it again now in fact, the second time he shows her after saying "That was too fast" you clearly see at least three 7 of diamonds click by as he goes thru the deck. I had always assumed they just let us see the 7 for a split second longer than any of the cards but had to take a better look at it after reading the questions here...

"Well, isn't this place a geographical oddity! Two weeks from everywhere!"

reply

Actually at speed 0.25x I have counted at least half a dozen of them. There really is a bunch.

reply

The best part of the card trick was it introduced us to one of the movie's best characters. The overly attractive female he blew off sleeping with to go join his magic society was a very well written character with a lot of depth.

reply

There is no trick, 7 of diamonds is the only card you could see clearly when he shuffled. Intentionally of course

reply

Not true at all, you see many cards clearly if you watch it in slow motion, the trick was done by having several 7 of diamonds in a row, at least 3 by my count...

This trick was actually real. It took me about 3 or 4 times watching the scene to finally see a different card. The card is cut in half and pushed up a bit so when he flicks through the cards it stays slightly longer on that 7?? This trick can be done in real life
