Just found out about this

So far I really like it. I was a raving Voltron nut as a kid. I bought the box sets and found them to be okay(Still love the music and sweet Peter Cullen Naration) but found it overall somewhat just this side of okay. The edits are really obvious and while most can be ignored some are just painfully stupid and no Pidge not everyone evacuated your planet before Lotor bombed it into the stone age. Those aren't robots and thats not fruit punch. Lotor falling into a submarine rather than his death so they could make a season 5 was also kind of come on.

I tried to watch Go Lion but never really got into it due to general lack of time to devote to watching subtitled films and series.

This show started off fairly meh for the first 4 episodes. The animation is just flat out bad. I feel like I'm watching chaotic/voltron, and the theme is worse. And at first the cadets seemed like the humans in prime only there to get in the way and cause trouble.

However I stuck with it and wow the cadets actually accomplish things! They have use! Daniel is a scaled down somewhat less annoying version of blackstar (Blackstar the worlds loudest most impulsive doe eyed idiot of an assassin needs to assassinate himself he takes Natsu from Fairy Tail and hypes up the annoying by a factor of cocaine.) I'm sick of the Miko's from TF Prime and the Daniel's of the animated world, give kids a more intelligent character they can handle it. They don't need a bastion of ADD fueled irresponsibility in order to relate to a character. Think back to the cartoon hereos you remember. Optimus Prime was a leader he was smart he had heart kids loved him. The cheetors of the world just don't engender the same level of awe.

Thankfully he gets taken down a few pegs every now and then and is not the main focus of the show. The other cadets get equal time and more importance. Vince in particular plays an interesting role in Voltron as a living bridge between science and magic wherein the VOltron universe has always dwelled.

The villains are pretty good. Maahox is delightfully creepy and funny. Lotor was ordering him around and he kind of whispered "perhaps you would like a neck massage as well." and made some strangling motions. The old show couldn't and wouldn't do it but this one can. It kind of bridges the gap between the old voltron and it's source Go Lion.

The story telling is improved in this series as well. There is a benefit to being an original animation and not hacking up another series. It comes through in the stories. They flow better. The characters grow and interact better. Voltron is strong but not all powerful he gets put though his paces. Not to say he didn't before but there is more of a balance of power in this series.

All in all I really like it and hope they give it a chance to grow.
