ACTRESSES!

I've just now caught up with this series in reruns and online, and the makeovers of these poor awkward girls with low self-esteem were getting me all warm and fuzzy inside until I learned, through a couple of Google searches, that two of them, Clare Fogerty and Lorelai Hibbard, are professional ACTRESSES; they even list the show as an acting credit on their resumes. Both were trained in dance, Hibbard is a model and make-up artist, and Fogerty does all kinds of sports, so it seems really unlikely that they'd have been all clueless about how to present themselves, talk, move, dress, or wear make-up. It also seems a strange omission that neither they nor their families or friends happened to mention their acting careers. I'll bet most if not all of the "Janes" were from casting agencies. So much (again) for tv "reality."

Supplemental: Jona Xiao is also an actress. Cristen Penn used to sing in a band. Can't find last names or other information on the other two Janes, Carrie and Angela.

I'm watching this for the first time now, and from the perspective of an actress, most of us are "regular" people whose job puts us in the public eye. There are actors & actresses with low self-esteem, poor social skills, inability to put together a decent outfit, etc. Performing is one thing. Real life is something altogether different.

A lot of times when actors are cast on reality shows, they are asked not to talk about it because the public perception is "oh, the whole thing is fake." Not necessarily so.
