Gasp!!!

Why am I considered a pariah by soccer (oops, I meant football) fans simply because I want a team that ISN'T from Europe or South America to win this World Cup???

Is it really unthinkable/unacceptable/unbelievable to support countries like South Africa, Australia, or even the US instead of the same old, same old ones?

Go ahead. Blame me for everything George Bush did. You'll feel better.

And which team might that be?

You obviously didn't understand my previous post.

I meant ANY team that is not European or South American.

Geesh.

Go ahead. Blame me for everything George Bush did. You'll feel better.

Well I was rooting for Mexico yesterday!

Actually, USA is getting a lot of support from non-Americans I know, more than England (who are playing crap this year).

But I'm rooting for South America, gotta go for home

The Gods are smiling upon:
Group A Uruguay
Group B Argentina
Group C USA
Group D Serbia
Group E Netherlands
Group F Paraguay
Group G Brasil
Group H Chile

Obviously it always pretty much boils down to European and South American teams, but one can feel free to dream as the USA have advanced to the next round! It may well come down to Brasil, Argentina, Netherlands, and Chile. Spain are currently proving themselves once-again worthy against Honduras! Can't wait to see them against Chile on the 25th. If Germany beat Ghana on Wednesday it will change their outlook significantly.

Tonight: Midfielder Donovan nails a goal in the final minutes to secure the USA team's advance to the 16's. What a f'ing hero for the USA who would otherwise be finished. USA & England now move ahead, leaving behind a terribly disappointed Slovenian team.

I'm part dutch/English... I support both teams because I have family and have lived in both countries. Overall I support the dutch (i just prefer they're style, its so much fun to watch and to be a part of).

However every game i watch (and I watch them all when it comes to the world cup) I root for a team (i find a reason be it silly or personal). So I root for teams from all over the world. I personally would love an Asian country to do well- which is why I want japan to come second in group E. I would also really love an African country to do well (although now it seems unlikely any will pass the group stages, although i still hold out hope for Ghana).
The USA I would like to do well but I don't want them to win, just because I don't think it will be appreciated as much quite yet. I know footballs popularity has been growing in the states but I don't think its quite at the place where people would care too much if they won and so i think it would be a waste. (this is from someone who sees streets covered in orange before the world cup has even started and after games sees people talking in the street about the match and most people on match day walk around in orange).

I don't particularly support European teams (apart from the Netherlands and England), I support teams that I find to be deserving. The team I support in the finals tends to be the team who hasn't lost a single match or who i think played the better game and thus deserves to win.

(I hope this makes sense, its very late for me and i'm tired).
