Does anyone recall the very last line spoken by K.Scott Thomas...

... just as the picture went to black?

reply

Seeing it tomorrow, so if nobody posts in the meantime, I'm your girl. :)

Hi, there. OK, so I tried to be on guard for the last line. It was a bit nerve-wracking as I was trying to watch the movie, yet trying to pay attention to what she said, comparing it to the book and trying not to miss it, lol. Anyway, this is what I got. It's not complete, but I did my best... In the last image, of (adult Sarah and?) the surf, we hear Julia's voice say, "When a story is told (part I missed).....the memory of who we were.....the hope of who we can become."

reply

She says : when a story is told it is remembered.

reply

When a story is told, it becomes the history of who we are.

when a story is told it is not forgotten, it becomes something else. The memory of who we were, the hope of what we can become.

i don't have this line in my dvd. is this in french dvd? i buy the dvd and the last thing that was said is william saying thank you for the name of the little girl, and we see the little Sarah at the window... so there's an other version?

reply

I think the posters are all referring to the voice over at the end, WHILE little Sarah stands at the window. I think the full quote is on the IMDB page under quotes: check it out:

Quotes
Julia Jarmond: And so I write this for you, My Sarah. With the hope that one day, when you're old enough, this story that lives with me, will live with you as well. When a story is told, it is not forgotten. It becomes something else, a memory of who we were; the hope of what we can become.

This is my signature and I'm sticking to it. lol

From another thread on this board, I gather there are at least 2 versions.
The US version has the voice-over, the French doesn't.

I checked with the region-B Blu-ray of 2011 from TF1 video: no voice-over during the opening, nor in the final scene.

(That region-B Blu-ray gives you the choice between two soundtracks:
- the original, i.e. where you hear in English actors that are actually speaking English, with optional French subs;
- the dubbed soundtrack, where you hear a French dub instead, in those English speaking scenes.
Neither soundtrack has the voice-over at the end.)

What? That wasn't in the movie I watched at all. The movie ends with the word "Sarah" which Julia says in reply to William asking about the name of the girl. Is there a different version?

reply

Roonil, sorry, would you believe I cannot even remember this movie or even writing what I wrote? hahaha. I watched this movie and wrote this in July 2013 (according to the IMDB page), which is almost 4 years ago. I would have to go back and check to see what story this is about. I don't know what version or if there is a different version. Maybe another poster might be better able to respond.
