I wanted to hear other's opinion about this. I would understand it if it is really dangerous for mother's health, but with modern medicine it's not. At one scene, he said he wanted abortion because "I don't want to be an old dad...I am too busy now" That was very selfish of him. Am I the only person who felt this way? I saw other people said he was right.

shareI think he's supposed to be a selfish character, no wonder Julia leaves him at the end. He didn't give the baby one single chance, after all the trouble his wife had gone through.

I don't want to say he was selfish. He was a man who had passed the prime of his life and didn't want to be an old dad (like Larry King, no offense meant). But I would agree it was not right. His wife was no longer trying to get pregnant after trying for 6 years, and unexpectedly got pregnant. It was wrong of him to ask her to abort after she had been trying so hard, but I can also understand how he felt. Some women after they reach a certain age don't want to have more children either, while some husbands still want them to have.

I don't think this was in the movie but in the book he is having an affair. Having a baby would cramp his lifestyle. He was so selfish. He felt that his wife was not paying enough attention to him so he had an affair with someone who thinks he walks on water.
