1st World War

Starts off very slow, but hits the mark with the war scenes.
We don't see a lot of films made about the 1st World War, but with the gas and the trenches it was a more dirty war then the 2nd World War.
I need to read up more on the 1st WW. Never knew gas was used

My grandfather was in WW! and was gassed in the trenches of the Somme. He survived the war but died in the mid 1930's only in his fifties.

This film was shot partially in Ipswich my home town. It was filmed in Chantry Park, a 5 min drive from where I live, and Christchurch Mansion our famous Tudor building in the centre of Ipswich.
But the most interesting fact was that the trench warfare was filmed at Trench Farm , on the outskirts of Ipswich , where a landowner has converted some of his land to replicate the trenches of WW1. Several films of WW1 have been made there, using the facilities thus provided.I know where Trench Farm is, but you can't just turn up and ask to look at his trenches, I think you need a group permit. sad, I have a great interest in WW1 and would like to visit out of curiosity.

I'm afraid you really do need to read up on WWI if you didn't know gas was used. It is what that war was most infamous for along with the wholesale slaughter of cannon fodder.
