Rating? (book spoilers)

I realize it's early for me to ask if anyone knows what this will be rated, but my question is, for those who have also read the book, how are they going to convey the uh..."climactic moment" so to speak, without it being a.horrendously uncomfortable and awkwardly placed (I mean in a purely structuralist way, obviously the scene IS very uncomfortable and awkward in the narrative) or b. an NC-17 money shot. I'm heartened by the fact that McEwan is writing it himself, so any changes I'm sure will make complete sense. This strikes me as an adaptation that will rely more on the core message rather than the literals of the plot.

i just read the book and that was my same question too, upon finding out that a movie is being made of it. maybe they'll cut that out and just show her getting so scared and frustrated that she runs out on him.

Well, thankfully, this will be a British film, so I hope that the makers won't have a crippling fear of the NC 17 rubbish, because no film certificate comes with that stigma in Britain.

I think it'll be very difficult to pull off, but it is the only graphic moment of the novel, I think including it is essential, and has to be done in quite an horrific way, because it had such shattering effects. The people who give the ratings should then grow up. At least in America. In Britain, an 18 rating does no harm to a film, the BBFC are pretty lenient, anyway, as long as it's justified in context it may be a 15 here.
