In the accident at the beginning what did they hit?

It was not clear what was the cause of the accident?

Didn't they show some deer by the roadside shortly before the accident? They probably hit one.

Was a deer but the way the scene was filmed made it difficult to see ....

A Deer- a Wolf- fairly big animal... Doesn't really matter- as the showed ½ second of something fur covered and big enough to make a 'thud' and change the cars direction off path.

The first clue for me was the deer flying off to the side . The second was the dead deer laying in the road. Seeing that I live in Minnesota and have seen my fair share of dead deer on the road, and have hit one myself, I'm guessing it was a deer.

all good clues, but what if it was a moose? how does that change the outcome of the movie, or the OP's enjoyment of the movie?
