Massively underrated?

I just found this hidden gem on Netflix and I then I come to see the reviews on here, RottenTomatoes, and other sites are very low. I personally thought it was a great film with a fantastic ensemble cast.

My only complaints are useless side plots (ex. Kate Mara's acceptance letter to the FBI) and the ending, which I thought was far too abrupt.

Laughable opinion. This is one of those films that had no point to it. Only thing of note was Eruc Banana slipping into Aussie accent.

But it's only your opinion that his is laughable. Maybe it's easy to make you laugh.

"Hidden gem" is this a damn joke ? This movie and your comment is laughable like the other guy mentions. This movie is the epitome of bad writing.

Characters taking retarded/bizarre 180 degree decisions, the bad guy decides he wants to suddenly celebrate thanksgiving out of nowhere instead of getting away with a load of money. The weak background story for Jay that never actually amounts to anything.

Kate Maras character seems like it was forced to be written into the story without no apparent reason, what was the purpose of her ? they could just have let her dad gotten to the house at the end since he is like the big boss of the police there. Instead you have a female police officer you couldnt care less about and a weak angry police dad with no depth whatsoever either.

Oh and the best part was that completely retarded cop when they arrive at the cabin with the little girl. He throws away Maras walkie talkie randomly like some drunk loon when she says she wants to call backup and later afterwards she steals his snowmobile and this is the guy her dad later on cries over ahahah lmfao this was one of the worst written movies ive seen lately.

He said he was hungry and therefore required sustenance. After Chet and, then, Jay & his Liza showed up he was enjoying being in control and manipulating. He still intended to flee to Canada, but took advantage of the holiday situation. Even when the lady cop arrives he didn't fret because it was a house call and so he didn't expect back-up to arrive. There was still plenty of time to tie them all up or lock 'em in a room, borrow one of the vehicles and head across the border to freedom.

What more do you need to know? His character was the link to the farmhouse and the culminating Thanksgiving from hell with the fugitive heisters. The background story of Jay established him as desperate trouble-plagued fighter fleeing from authorities and looking for something good that could anchor him, which turns out to be Liza.

Kate Mara's character seems like it was forced to be written into the story without no apparent reason, what was the purpose of her?

The scriptwriter was obviously trying to illustrate the challenges of a female in a traditionally male occupation in rural America. He overdid it with the ill-treatment though (like her dad's eye-rolling "change your tampon" comment); subtlety would've helped make it more convincing.

He didn't throw it away; he tossed it in the snow. It was his arrogant way of saying he didn't need back-up and could handle the situation himself. He was also showing his disrespect for the female officer, which was the result of following the police chief's bad example.

and this is the guy her dad later on cries over ahahah lmfao

He was one of the chief's boys who died in the line of duty. What would you rather have him do, jump up-and-down cheering?
