is this a comedy?
I don't see a genre mentioned here
shareIf you find Wes AndersonĀ“s movies funny, then yes, it is.
shareCan anyone give me a useful answer?
shareIf you find Friedberg & SeltzerĀ“s movies funny, then no, it is not.
Was that more useful?
No because it's still not a direct answer.
shareYou cannot always directly declare something a comedy because people have different sense of humor. And since I don't know anything about you, I cannot know if you'll find this movie funny. Do you get it now?
sharethen what is the point of having the genre of movies mentioned on this website if it is subjective?
shareYes. IMDB will call it a comedy, I'm sure of that.
But ...
They will likely also call it a drama, as they have with Whit Stilman's other movies. And in some ways, those two things cancel each other out in broad strokes. So the comedic value of a movie, isn't entirely based in what tag IMDB gives it. Because it's not JUST a comedy.
Which is why people answered the way they did. The comedic inclination of it is on par with movies like Wes Anderson's. Which is comedy to some, not to others.
Declare away!
shareyes. i hope dat wuz direct enuf.
I live, I love, I slay, and I'm content
It is absolutely a comedy!
(why is no one able to give a straight answer on this)

There are comedic elements, but I'd class it more of a "Dramady"; it's more serious than your average comedy.

Well I thought the first half was hilarious, then when she is depressed I found it a bit more dramatic. Broadly speaking I would call it a comedy above all else but not in the Animal House sense of the word. I mean you wouldn't sit around and drink beers to this. I don't think it passes the 6 can or more rule of comedy. It's a unique blend of the offbeat and satirical types of comedy. It's almost a little British in it's humour. I liked it quite a lot but not enough to rave over it. It's a laid back, subtle comedy.
shareI'm still trying to figure it out.
Man is a military animal, glories in gunpowder, and loves parade.
It is rather obviously a comedy. I think that some people don't know what "comedy" means, and have decided it is synonymous with "farce."
To be more specific, it's a somewhat skewed comedy of manners (which implies an element of social satire), combined with bits and pieces of romantic comedy.
Yeah, comedy. And, for my money a slyly funny one.
