Thanks for the information, Neil. So you say that you don't know if Drew Hart is still working in the publishing industry. I'm not saying that buying your book was his only mistake, perhaps Mr. Hart overpaid for other books which also failed to earn back their advance money.
So Laurence Freundlich, moved over to a division of Simon & Schuster. Sometimes people are transferred to other jobs because they prove to be incompetent at the jobs they currently have, and are then given a second chance to perform better elsewhere. However, since Mr. Freundlich again made the same mistake of buying a book from you which failed to earn back the advance money, perhaps he also no longer works in the publishing industry.
So Susan Allison at Ace outbid Jim Baen for the rights to your book and made it the lead science fiction title of the month, and the last time you checked she had become the editor-in-chief at Berkley. Obviously Ms. Allison made enough smart choices in her career by buying books which sold well and actually earned back MORE than the advances paid to the writers, that she was able to survive the blunder of overpaying for your book.
Neil, if we disregard the books you have self-published, or published with vanity printers, have any of your books ever earned back the money you were paid for them? Have any of your books ever warranted a second print run? Have any of your books ever won any LEGITIMATE awards? No, your local family book club award does NOT count!
