Bianca too pretty to be a 'DUFF'

I quite enjoyed this movie surprisingly, but the one problem I had with this movie was Bianca was supposedly 'the duff' yet she was the best looking girl out of all of them, which kind of made it unbelieveable that she was such an outcast.
Did anyone else have this problem, and who would you have cast instead?

I think I would have tried to cast Alexandra Stamler from Role Models in the role.

The DUFF doesn't have to be ugly. She just supposedly pales in comparison to her friends.

I thought she was better looking than both of her friends though.

No, you really didn't.
That's just you trying to portray yourself as a certain type of guy.
Even the actress would tell you that she isn't even in the same ball park as the two other girls.

Even dolled up her potatoe head was hard to stomach

I love how people always show how real and edgy they are by saying the "ugly" girl in a movie is actually the prettiest one.

I knew while I was typing in IMDB that there would be several posts with guys saying how Bianca was the prettiest girl.

Just in terms of pure looks - give me a break.

Put Bianca and her two BFFs together at any mall or bar in the world, and line up every guy in that area and say "which girl is the prettiest"....and 99.9% of them aren't going to choose the actress who played Bianca.

Not saying she wasn't funny, smart and intelligent.

But in terms of just physical beauty - anybody who says Bianca was the prettiest girl in this movie is purely a troll who says the same thing in every movie they watch.

Are you a female?

reply

No actually, she's more my type of girl.

I find her unattractive and I think her face is a bit annoying to look at. She's not fat (as a few people were posting), she's an average weight although looks chubby, similar to how someone can look skinny-fat.

Come on, look at it from the producer's point of view. Movies with ugly people don't make a lot of money. Most people want to see beauty up there on the big screen. That's why movies want a famous actress as the lead, someone who makes the cover of People and Us magazines and who turns heads when she walks into a room.

So yeah, if the DUFF was a little independent film that didn't mind if it made $345 on its opening weekend, you might see Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) up there as the DUFF. She's got personality plus. But otherwise...let's get real. In the entire history of comedies, has a really, really fat or ugly actress ever played the lead? They are always the friend. Even in Shallow Hal where they put Gwynneth Paltrow into a fat suit, she was beautiful Gwynneth for 90% of the film and fat Gwynneth for 10%.

Wow I've seen movies with really ugly people as the main leads. It's not always about the looks silly.

reply

You may have thought her the most attractive, but to most of the rest of society she was the least attractive of the girls. Again we are not talking about just you, we are talking about the whole society. I understand we all have different taste but she would be the least likely to win a beauty contest.

It's pretty hard to even imagine a Hollywood actress under 30 thay would meet those standars. Lena Dunham, maybe?

Imagine how confusing the movie would have been if the girl who played Madison actually won the part of Bianca, which she auditioned for.

reply

Yeah Lena Dunham would probably be ideal for this role, and I'd definitely agree with her as the 'DUFF'.

Everyone is a DUFF and nobody is a DUFF. That's the whole fcking point.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

I'm sorry but Bianca was by far the most unattractive female in the cast and fits the role of DUFF perfectly.
Like jemkiggins I struggled to see something appealing about her face and it just wasn't happening. At the end there was definitely no "She's All That" moment because she still is a 2.

1. BVS 2. TWS 3. Avengers

reply

In your opinion. And what does that have to do with my post?

reply

Honestly I struggled throughout the movie, I wanted her to be cute or pretty or attractive but it just wasn't happening, I put it down to her clothes/style, even at the end at prom she looked awful, the dress, hair and makeup really did not suit her at all. She has a petite frame, that dress made her look like she had man shoulders.

reply

Completely disagree. I love the casting in this movie because it hit the nail on the head for me. By herself, Bianca was cute, attractive even, but next to her friends, she definitely wasn't as conventionally pretty. It was a very believable concept, especially every time they were side by side. The actress was perfect for the role as a cute girl but not one that would turn you heard if you saw them walking down the street.
