Ohio State and Northwestern...?

"...oh and Wesley, he passed science. He's going to Ohio State in the fall. And since I got into Northwestern, we can visit each other... a lot."

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like she is saying him going to Ohio State and her going to Northwestern is convenient for them to keep dating. But it's not. Ohio State is in Columbus and Northwestern is in Chicago. That's 350 miles and 5 and a half hours apart... that isn't even remotely convenient to visit one another. They could fly I guess but given the fact that Wesley was worried about losing his football scholarship by failing science, I don't think he has a lot of cash to just pay for plane tickets. Not to mention, if he's playing OSU football, he probably doesn't have the time to go to Chicago or spend his weekend with Bianca.

5.5 hours isn't far at all... You could literally eat breakfast and be there for lunch. Plus you could alternate weekends. Once you become an adult and commute for a job travel seems petty

Okay you could say that 5.5 hours isn't the worst drive, but to say it "isn't far at all" is ridiculous. It certainly isn't driving Maine to California but it's still not just a throw away, commuter drive.

I think the point she was making is it could've been a lot worse. Say for example one was going to UCLA and the other was going to Harvard.

I can see them trying to make it work. One or the other visit every other weekend or something like that. Of course they can talk on the phone and you got holidays as well.

i live in california and people drive from the bay area to LA or san diego all the time for the weekend. that's a 6-8 hour drive. to some people, it's no big deal.

This jumped out to me as well. It would be one thing if he got a scholarship to Madison (Univ of Wisc) and she was going to Northwestern.

My college was 5 hours from home and it was no easy feat going home for the weekend. I didn't have a car so I'd have to carpool, I was always broke, and weekends were usually busy with studying, etc.

Anyway, it's just a movie, not sure why I'm putting all this thought into it...

reply

Maybe she meant the University of Northwestern Ohio.
