The dialog says Kaja is a bit frumpy, bordering on "unattractive". But the reality didn't seem at all that way to me (particularly the romp in the snow). Was anybody else thrown by the apparent disconnect?

shareThe disconnect is the irony in the fact that her husband blames her for his lack of attraction while she is a very beautiful woman! As a result, her self-esteem is in the toilet as she cannot understand why her husband doesn't love her. Likewise, she believes his pronouncement that she sings like a crow and misses out on joining a local choir. Despite being extremely thin, she goes on crazy diets to make herself more attractive. All the while, there is nothing wrong with her at all! Her husband is 'in the closet' and the contempt he shows her is really a projection of the contempt he feels for himself.
