Pacific Rim vs Godzilla (2014)

Just curious to see which one you guys/girls prefer more. For me its Pacific Rim.

Now I have heard the "Its dumb", "Its basically giant power rangers fighting monsters", "Stupid dumb fun" etc. in terms of Pacific Rim. And yeah, the screenplay wasn't exactly the best, but:

The Monsters were designed beautifully
Idris Elba's performance was awesome
It was fun
etc.

On to Godzilla, I was excited to see this movie; as I recall, I first saw back in May 2014. With the movie starring the likes of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver AKA Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, and more notably Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston I couldn't wait to see the movie.

In the end I was mostly disappointed. Not enough screentime for Godzilla, thinly developed supporting characters, and a pacing issues. Now that's not to say I hated Godzilla, because despite all that I just mentioned, I rather enjoyed it. Pacific Rim 2 is now in limbo unfortunately and Godzilla 2 is still set for 2018. But which do you prefer:

Del Toro's Pacific Rim vs Edwards Godzilla?

I have to say I preferred Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim was just all kinds of awesome. I really got into the characters and the mythology they developed in that universe.

Godzilla was good but I found the human characters rather tedious and much of what they did as nothing more than filler to fill up screen time. I don't like that the movie focused down on one soldier and his family. All soldiers should have been supporting characters and Ken Watanabe should have been given a better purpose also it was a mistake to kill Brian Cranston so quickly.

I'll say Pacific Rim just because I am a little bit salty that I was sold on seeing Bryan Cranston and then they kill him in the first bit of the movie.

Godzilla had one of the most magnificent trailers I've ever seen though.

Thanks for the Godzilla spoiler tags you *beep* lazy *beep*

If you haven't seen Godzilla 2014 yet then you should genuinely thank him for spoiling the movie so you don't have to waste your time now to watch that pile of monkey dung.

If Ari Gold saw Chappie he would say:
"Chappie makes Elysium look like Citizen ƒvcking Kane"

I suppose you are right. Besides Godzilla, Cranston was the only reason I really wanted to see the movie. Knowing that Godzilla is almost non-existent and Cranston dies early makes me kinda glad I didn't go see it in theaters like I had planned.

I prefer Godzilla, it's just a better film overall. Especially when it comes to spacing out the spectacle. Both Pacific Rim and Godzilla have pretty thin characterization, but I think the performances overall were better in Godzilla, and I loved the slow-burning buildup to the climax as opposed to just unleashing the best action set-piece halfway into the film like Pacific Rim did.

Both great films and I revisit them pretty often till this day, but I have to say that I would pick Godzilla if I was forced to choose just one.

Yeah, I hate that Bryan Cranston's character was killed off so quick.

Godzilla was awful, huge disappointment. It made 1998 Godzilla look like the Godfather.

Pacific Rim all the way. For two reasons. Idris Elba. And then the cool AF monsters.
