WELL SAID !!! That's exactly what I was thinking - with their gangster wanna' be slang & "flow", and whatever. I actually fast forwarded to the end because I couldn't stand how "thuggy" they were. Very disappointing.

The "thug" portrayal didn't last long. I thought it was kinda funny but at the same time seemed very realistic. What bothers me more so is the people that have a problem with them hunting seals. Sure they're cute but these people need to eat it's the circle of life and a major aspect of their culture.

Teenagers always want to be something that they are not. It often takes time to appreciate one's heritage.

I actually appreciated it because I think it reflects real life. It's no different than white kids living in the suburbs acting like they live in the hood. One of the interesting aspects to this film is that it's about these kids (and all of us really) finding out who we are, or more accurately, who we are going to choose to be.

One scene in particular that I found compelling is when they walked into the Search and Rescue Station and the American Flag hung in the background. It reminded me all at once that I wasn't watching a "foreign film" but an American (United States to be precise) one. And that kid standing in front of the flag was just as "American" as I was. Or a thug living the street life in ATL.

That is so interesting... having lived in Alaska my whole life (I've always lived in the city, and have never been to one of the villages), it never occurred to me how foreign it may seem to someone outside of Alaska. I'm completely fascinated by this comment.

Absolutely correct...........let's hope....

It's sad really - I don't understand the attraction to rap and thuggery and in such a remote place as Barrow. It just goes to show how modern media have warped the thinking of people from all corners of the world.
