Was the the lack of gore?

So I finally got around to watching it, and there certainly was something missing. I don't think that if you have seen the original that you can watch without comparison. I did try, and I don't think that it was awful, but it fell short. I don't know if it was the actual lack of gore, or just a different atmosphere, but I didn't feel anything for the girls. I also think that they skimmed over Lucie's demons/monster. It just seemed so fast and had I not been paying attention I would have wondered wth. I'm not against remakes, nor was I against this one, but I just didn't feel any despair with this.

It was an okay horror, but it missed the point I think.

The problem is it just doesn’t have an amosphere anywhere near as bleak and disturbing as the atmosphere of the original.

Agreed. There was no despair, and the ending was rather blah.
