Probably the worst remake I've ever seen

Less violent, bad acting, boring cheesey score, *beep* directing, the lighting stinks, cinematography is horrendous, and there's almost no original writing. BTW I've only seen the first 30 mins so far. This reminds me of a *beep* local band playing Zeppelin in a dive bar.

Wow. This must be your first remake. In fact, by the way you've written this movie off as worse than a school play, it must be your first film, too!

Well compared to the 2008 version the original this one is really bad in all ways.

Not sure what they where trying to pull off in that one, useless remake for sure.

reply

Completely useless, indeed. Man, I thought that maybe some of these reviews & comments on how terrible this remake is were just fans of the original being biased, but no such luck.

This remake "effort" by Goetz felt rushed, and cheap. There was ZERO tension, no atmosphere to speak of, and didn't even try to offset the lack of these things with OTT gore.

I suppose this could be enjoyable for teenagers or horror fans who hate foreign films, but for those who have seen, and love the original, it's a complete waste of time IMO.

Unnecessary remake, avoid if you've seen the original.

100% agree

reply

i think the same, just watched it, and felt like something in the movie is missing...

reply

It gets worse as it goes on...

reply

Totally agree. And it only got worse. I don't understand why anyone felt the need to remake the original, especially an American version which was always going to be lesser.

reply

Ha, that's funny. I was thinking this remake was the equivalent to a Slayer song being covered by One Direction.

the original MARTYRS is amazingly well made (beautiful cinematography, excellent atmosphere, etc) and the acting from it's 2 leads was IMO award caliber (Morjana Alaoui & especially Mylène Jampanoï were incredible).

that being said, this remake is not anywhere near being the worst remake ever. do you need to be reminded of truly atrocious remakes like THE FOG, PROM NIGHT, etc...? LOL. now THOSE were insultingly awful remakes.

i'm not saying this remake was good but it was watchable. i think the musical score was actually pretty good and i think Bailey Noble did a very good job as Anna.

reply

Don't forget Black Christmas or The Eye remake lol.
I haven't seen this yet, but surely it can't be worse than them??

reply

BeOneOfUs, i can't lie i freaking LOVE the Black Xmas remake! lol. i love the original film too of course but the remake is so much fun and it has a great cast. it's definitely a guilty pleasure movie for me (yes, i even own it on DVD! lol).

reply

@JJett

Lol, same here! I get a kick out of slashers like Black Christmas.

reply

I didn't even know there was a remake of The Eye. Also, the Black Christmas remake wasn't that bad IMO. It was completely different than the original, and I knew coming in that it was going to be a sort of teen-slasher type movie. Those kinds of flicks, if gory enough, can be fun. I'd rate it at a 5, maybe 5.5. The Martyrs remake just didn't do it for me. I felt it lacked heart.

reply

I thought the score was especially bad considering how good the original was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAtp26MXD3M

reply

I actually enjoyed it. And I have seen the original like 5 times.

reply

I refuse to watch it as i don't want to ruin the impact the original had on me and the remakes tend to be atrocious. There was absolutely no reason to remake this other from the creators to make money leeching off the success of the first.

reply

*beep* this. i couldnt even make it through the trailer. the original was perfect. again...*beep* this
