Is the father of Nasser-Ali ever mentioned?

I saw the movie just now and I am astonished by this stunning piece of movie.

However, I was wondering what is the role of the father in Nasser-Ali's life? I can't remember they mentioned him. I remember the mother of him died. Did the father propably died early?

Yep! The narrator says at some point that he died when Nasser-Ali was 12.
