Does anybody else see similarities in this movie to the movies: 'Love in the Time of Cholera' and 'Like Water For Chocolate'? All these movies had to do with spending your life without your true love while pining for them, and in various ways although this movie was not as much of a happy ending as the other two listed, finding that love again in the end.

Any other movies along these same plot-lines that you can think of/recommend?

I only caught the last third of this film, but its similarity to "Like Water for Chocolate" struck me. In the case of "Chicken with Plums", finding the love the loss of which had inspired Nasir Ali's music for the all the years of his life since ends more somberly. Irani affects not to remember him, causing loss of Nasir's will to live; it is not just the breaking of his violin, but the breaking of his heart, by that meeting: as he sees it the entire purpose of his life and music was in vain. He cannot know what the viewer knows: that Irani does remember him, and her heart is broken, too.

I could be a morning person if morning happened at noon.

Look for films tagged "magic realism". Look for films where the story was by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Another example that comes to mind is Cocolat.
