Ruthless People remake???

As LeroyBrown-2 said, "Where's the duck mask?" Did Hollywood really think that they could slip this one by without 80s film fans noticing that they remade a film and named it something else? As I always say, "It'll never be better than the original."

Surprise me this time, Hollywood.

This is based on a book by Elmore Leonard that came out long before Ruthless People. Every Elmore Leonard fan knew that Ruthless People was a rip off when it came out.
Do you research buddy.

You're just trolling now right?

OK.....Ruthless People was a laugh out comedy and NOT based on The Switch by Elmore Leonard. If anything, the writer stole this plot from Leonard's book which came way before the film RP. And Life of Crime IS based on Leonard's book The Switch which is a black comedy and not laugh out loud comedy.....compare Bette Midler and Danny DeVito to Jennifer Aniston, Tim Robbins, John Hawkes and Isla Fisher......see the difference?

He probably didn't do research cause he has a life

No, because he's a troll like you.

It's not an original plot idea to begin with. It was used in "Too Many Crooks", a British comedy that came out in 1959.

Check the "Trivia" - this film was in development when "Ruthless People" came out and was shelved because the basic gimmick was similar/

Since this is based on a book that was several years old at the time, if anything, "Ruthless People" is the knock-off.

Check the facts first next time.

I just wished they'd have the cajones to use the Huey and Dewey masks from Ruthless People... which was a hilarious flick... THAT would've been a great wink to the audience to the inevitable comparison without getting into a pissing (troll!! NO! you're a troll) contest. Now everybody has the same size penis and can we all play nice??

reply

That's exactly what I was thinking! Whether or not the book for Life of Crime came out first, it appears producers scrapped the idea of making a movie after Ruthless People was released. I guess it's been long enough that most people wouldn't mind either a remake or re-imagining of the 80s movie.

Well, it also seems a fail attempt to be as funny as Bandits (2001) which also has a similar plot, except the fact that they are not bank robbers.

I just watched it and although there some similarities, it also has some clear differences. Watchable as was Ruthless People, but out of an hour and 40 minutes. I wouldn't consider this a comedy, not even a dark comedy

Spoiler Alert Below

Ruthless People was a dark comedy but this was a crime drama with some harrowing moments especially the attempted rape scene which was very well done. So good to see JA stretching herself and showing people that she is more than just a romantic comedy actress. At least her detractors can't say that this was Friends all over again.
