From what I've heard, test screenings indicate that few things make a female protagonist as unlikeable as infidelity. If it's revealed in the first ten minutes that a wife, especially a mom, cheats on her husband/family, both men and women will find her actions unforgivable.

As for men cheating, it's funny how both men and women will blame "the other woman." Look at how Pitt got the least amount of flack from that decade-plus saga.
