cut bank really?

As a resident in Cut Bank, MT I would just like to know how this movie is being accurately portrayed when it is being filmed in Canada and not in the actual town of Cut Bank? It makes no sense to me to go about it in this way...don't get me wrong, I'm excited that there is such an amazing cast and that Cut Bank is "getting on the map" so to speak but I have spoke to other residents here and many would like our town to be represented true to the nature of our community. Just a thought...maybe film the movie in the actual area that it is about. You would find that we are very caring and supportive community and would love to have the opportunity to show everyone how it is to actually live in such a great area such as Cut Bank!

It's being filmed in Canada because, believe it or not, it saves the production money. Being a smaller budgeted production, it makes a big difference. I can assure you the filmmakers are taking a lot of care to accurately portray Cut Bank. There's some very talented locations and set dec people here in Edmonton and area and what has been shot so far looks fantastic.

Movies have been set in one place and filmed in another for as long as movies have been made. The problem is that your community probably doesn't have the film infrastructure required, let alone the actual infrastructure (hotels?). It's ultimately a business decision. Plus by filming in Canada they're taking advantage of government grants given out to encourage movies to film in Canada. Some other recent westerns set in the US and actually filmed in Alberta are Brokeback Mountain and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

I understand this, however Montana has a decent infrastructure for film. Movies like Forrest Gump, A River runs Through It , The Horse Whisperer, Lonesome Dove and many others, have been filmed here. We also have a film school that has produced talent, such as the maker and special effects guru for Coraline ,graduate from MSU's film school. The state government has made strides to provide incentives for films to be made in Montana. I understand that Canada may be cheaper in some ways, but honestly if you can film it where it's suppose to be set you should. I know Montanan's would have loved the jobs and money that hosting a film brings. You know Hollywood big wigs like to come to our state and buy up land, screw with water rights and other local issues in the name of conservation but were not good enough for them to film a movie, set in Montana, in Montana.

Plenty films have been shot there so I guess you are good enough for Hollywood...

The problem is that you're basing this off of a "Gee...sure would be nice if they came and filmed in my home town/state/whatever" basis as opposed to a "Gee...I wonder what makes the most business sense for this picture" basis. Hollywood...and filmmaking...is a business. I'm sure if it made financial and logistical sense to film in Montana they would have. Evidently, they found a more appealing option elsewhere.

Do you know how many films have been shot in Toronto but take place within Boston, Chicago, New York, etc.? (Spoiler alert: It's a LOT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_shot_in_Toronto )

X-Files was shot in Vancouver. I don't think the FBI is conducting many paranormal investigations north of the border...

It happens all the time. Just gotta get past the "sure would be nice if..." mentality.

probably so they didn't have to listen to locals like you trying to tell them how to film their movie.

Maybe Cut Bank has changed a bit from the 1989 years, but I wouldn't think that they would be accepting of a character that promotes Native American culture. The one time I went to your town was when my boss from Glacier National Parks laundry decided to reward all of us employees with a trip to your Pizza Hut or In (it has been along time and I can't remember which one it was) in your home town. The thing that I remember most was that the waitress would only acknowledge the white people at the table. She refused to look at any of the native americans at the table or acknowledge anything they said. My boss and I had to repeat every request any of them made. Not because they their english was indecipherable, but because she was a racist bitch. Honestly, it was the most racist *beep* that I ever witnessed and I am from Louisiana. I hope your city is truly different now.

Since the filming is not taking place in Cut Bank, they should at least have some sort of a premier party so the community can maybe get a chance to see some of the stars, producers, and the director.

You just want to drool over Liam Hemsworth dont you

From the description, it doesn't sound like the filmmakers think Cut Bank is a nice place to live and start a family as the main character wants to get the heck out of dodge

Don't hate on contrarians

Jesus fella get over it. They aren't filming in your $hitty little town. Quit crying and go fly fishing or something.

haha exactly what I wanted to say :P

That's what the producers of Radioactive Man thought when they set up shop in Springfield. But as we all know, Quimby, Wiggum, and all the store owners gouged prices and sent those movie boys packing.

I can't imagine Cut Bank behaving any differently.

I'm from Middle Earth and i'm dissapointed they filmed Lord of the Rings in New Zealand. They should have just filmed it here in Middle Earth, its a great place here.

As a resident in Cut Bank
Why why why does every movie being filmed in one location, pretending to be in another, playing out a fictional plot have these stupid threads

Are people really so thick headed they don't get how movies work? It seriously is such a pointless thing to bitch about. Granted, I was pretty pissed Mission to Mars wasn't actually filmed on Mars so maybe I'm a hypocrite...
