Am I supposed to believe De Niro really has a chance to beat Stallone.

De Niro is older, and not half as athletic and built as the piece of meat that is Stallone. It was almost comical to see De Niro's 70 year old frail frame box against Stallone. I just couldn't get into this movie.

Yeah. But I think it was done cos he had portrayed a boxer in one of his older films

Clark: Jonathan Kent; isn't it a little past your bedtime?

They had to make Stallone blind in one eye just to give DeNiro a chance, and he still lost.

I agree. Even when he was in his prime, acting in Raging Bull, he wasn't very athletic al all. The movie still worked, because it wasn't really a boxer film, but more an art film.
But Deniro fighting with Stallone, who really WAS training boxing, and is still today a good bodybuilder? No way. There's just no way.

De Niro did trained as a boxer. This is from the trivia section of RB.
"In preparation for his role, Robert De Niro went through extensive physical training, then entered in three genuine Brooklyn boxing matches and won two of them."

Thanks for posting that. It's clear from the OP and some of the other posters that they don't know *beep* about training for boxing. Plenty of guys have DeNiro's build and can hit harder than guys with Stallone's build. Secondly DeNiro looked fantastic for his age, thirdly I would love to see how any of these critics would do sparring with ARchie Moore when he was 55-65, or James Toney who is far more fatty than DeNiro has ever been.

Foreman was a fat older guy, but he still whooped everyone's asses. It's a movie about 2 old guys boxing. You never fought before so you wouldn't know. You will never really forget your training. I haven't fought in years, but it doesn't mean I still can't throw a punch or kick.

State champ in martial arts, trained with firearms, I eFF'n dare you!
