Bethenny's new apt

Is that the best she could do for 5 mil?
Have you seen some of the fabulous apts they feature on Selling New York?
She should have gone on that show and found a much nicer apt... with some outdoor space for Bryn and Cookie.

I thought the apt. was in Tribecca which is a nice area with plenty of parkland nearby.

if that apartment is in the upper east side then she'll at least be by central park and museums for Bryn

The upper east side of Manhattan is a huge area. If you live near Fifth Avenue, yes, you are close to Central Park, but if you live near the East River you are nowhere close to the park.

In any case, there are loads of parks and museums in Manhattan even if you don't live on the UES. Her new apartment is in Tribeca, nowhere near Central Park.

What I dislike the most about Bethenny's apartment is the columns in the living room (maybe other places too). I could not live with those columns.

Most likely this building was converted from commercial space. I don't find that attractive either and it seems like she has inner core areas without windows which I find unappealing on every level.

^I agree. I think there was some mention in one of the innumerable conversations about remodeling the place that the living room (with the columns) would have no windows. I remember thinking how horrible that would be, especially for that kind of outlay.

Some of the furniture she was interested in was also guastly. Like they say, money doesn't buy good taste.

I prefer the old-fashioned Park Avenue apartments myself.

I totally agree Stirchley...... When it comes to decorating a living space Bethenny's taste is all in her mouth

A lot of places have those columns. I remember watching Love it or List it and the couple wanted their column gone. After a whole 20 minutes of the show of back and forth, they realized that all of the frickin electrical and other stuff was in the column. They couldn't knock it down without completely rewiring the house and making other significant changes. I would find a non-column home myself. hehe

I agree. I don't like it at all... Way too blah... no personality. And no warmth... Oh!... Just like Bethenny...LOL!!!
Seriously, it's very cold and plain. The kitchen is too stark and boring.
The furniture looks like the displays in Ikea.
And the bar is just tacky.
It looks like she just shopped around and said "I like this" and "I like that"... and then they just threw it all together.... Just horrid.

Okay, now you got me going. That skinnygirl stuff is making me hurl. I realized in at least 2 scenes where they were going to drink somewhere Bethenny overrode everyone and said, let's have Skinnygirl. So, if you work for her or are her friend, you can't frickin drink any other kind of liquid but her garbage-tasting stuff? I mean, seriously? I was so mad when Julie says should we have a pitcher and she says, no let's get skinnygirl. I mean give me a break. UGH!

Anyway, that bar is not my style, tastewise - the colors and angles and materials don't work for me. Anyone that has their logo in their home - tacky. Sorry, but it just is. I guess the stick-ons were just as bad. Who puts stick-ons in their rooms? 12 year old boys who have huge fathead stickers on their wall of their fave athlete - that's who! Plus the picture of her naked for PETA. On the wall. That is about as tasteful of the nasty pictures that Kim Z has all over her house of her naked nasty self in RHOA...

The apartment has way too much white (sofas, cabinetry) for my taste. It feels sterile almost like a hospital.

Too bad they didn't knock out the wall between the living room and kitchen or between the living room and the spare bedroom (now mancave) to allow some direct sunlight into the main living space. Or, perhaps they could have installed a hidden sliding door/wall to the mancave/bedroom to create privacy when needed. I can't imagine having a living room with no windows.

I liked the apartment, but that bar is tacky, tacky, tacky.

That apartment seems so cold, so sterile, so unwelcoming. Where's the color, the warmth, and the sunlight? The only rooms that seemed comfortable and inviting were Jason's TV room and Brynn's room.

All that money spent and what she ended up with looked like an expensive hotel suite or plastic surgeon's office, not a home.

I disagree with those who've said Bethenny has no taste. The apartment, with the exception of the Skinny Girl logo over the bar, was decorated with good taste, it just lacked any feeling of coziness or snugness.

The closet, now, that was amazing!

Also, I didn't watch the whole episode or the whole season, but does that apartment have a guest room or another bedroom? Because what if they have another kid? (Didn't she recently have a miscarriage?)

reply

I don't think they showed a guest room or extra bedroom.

I thought it was pretty dumb to have a vase with water within reach of Brynn.

Part of that problem is that kid never hears the word NOOOOOOO. Most kids get taught at a young age not to touch things like that. Example my granddaughter 20 months knows better than to touch remotes, glasses on the coffee table, phones those things are not for kids and why would you buy them their own plastic phones i never got them from parents...i think its LAZY parenting not wanting to correct your child so they let them play with adult things [eyeroll]. So its funny how some parents say its o.k. then in a few years the kid is telling the parent what to do and where to go. Sad really!!! lazy lazy lazy

Funny how Bethenny and Ramona hwonyc season 1 had everything negative to say about Alex's kid at a dinner where he was walking around the table screaming when everyone was eating...sounded really familiar to me when Bryn was trying to pull that package of food a few episodes ago from Bethenny's hands screaming like a brat. She is one to talk B you should not be throwing rocks when you live in a huge glass house.

The only way to have a friend is to be one.

One bedroom was converted into a dressing room and the other is used as Jason's "mancave." Rumor has it that Bethenny is pregnant again, so I assume that Jason's room will be given to the new baby. That is, if they stay in New York.

reply

Yeah, good for Bethenny if its her taste, but I thought it looked like a little hospital. No warmth or character at all.

No water! No liquids! I'm terribly allergic to them!

She was going on about it as if it were the Taj Mahal, so to each his own I guess. I love that show Selling NY btw! Selling LA is kind of cool but nothing is like NYC to me so I am biased, hehe. They have this show Celebrity House Hunting and Debbie Gibson went back to NY and had to find a place and was looking at a few that were around $7 million I think. They were better than Bethenny's but then again, that is before customization that the person might do. I think they are all overpriced anyway. Look at Derek Jeter's place that he put on the market. It is $14 million or more, can't remember. Looks so cold and stark. But I guess some people look at things differently. I mean, Bethenny's kitchen was extremely paltry for that amount, as was the bathroom. Jason was just excited because he had come from 500 sq feet so...hehe
