I need one simple questions answered

Did the goverment make scotts "family" die so he would kill Dolphs and Claudes anti goverment army? or/and test to make the perfect Soldier?

SPOILER ALERT...

Yes. At the end it was explained that previous versions of John failed in their mission to hunt down Luc Devereaux, so the latest incarnation of John was given the murder of his family at the hands of Devereaux as a "motivation" in the hope it would be the extra push he needed to succeed where previous Johns had failed.

People have complained about the plot being convoluted, but in my opinion, it needs multiple viewings to appreciate how well written it is. What I think escapes most people who watch it is that the they (the viewer) are experiencing the story as the protagonist John does. Events are murkey, slowly unfolding to the point where John goes berzerk and rages when he fully unravels the facts of his existence. I think Hyams did a great job of keeping things somewhat simple, avoiding plot holes and modernizing the whole Unisol concept to today's science without getting bogged down into explanations of all the technology behind it. They are just clones with enhanced metabolisms, superior regenerative capabilities and memory imprints. And they kick ass. Pretty simple.

But many people hated the movie because they can't stand the thought of a Van Damme film where he doesn't sport a mullet and do the splits.

I loved this movie! But there is a good reason why so many people *beep* on it. It says it is a Universal soldier movie, but this movie was not like the other universal soldier movies and didnt really have much to do with them. The fans expected a action movie but what they got was a mix of many genres. It's like making batman a kids movie when we are used to a darker superhero movie.

I dont blame the hate. They should have released the movie without being the universal soldier ip

Even Andrew Scott's name wasn't mentioned.
Yeah, he just seemed t be hanging conveniently around to have a couple of fights, rather than his character having a great deal to do with the main narrative.🐭
