I mean, I wasn't expecting anything great. I just wanted to see some stuff blow up, gunfights, maybe some boobs, etc. Instead, I got a half-baked "Apocalypse Now" and "Total Recall" ripoff with no resolution or even much in the way of a coherent plot. Avoid at all costs.

Everytime a director does something completely different, reactions such as yours are expected. I honestly think this movie is fantastic. It's a shame that people can't accept it. Even if you forget all the plot elements, all action fans should appreciate the brutal and well-filmed combat in this one.
Oh, and please explain HOW does this movie RIP Total Recall OFF? And just because Van Damme's character shares some similarities (like baldness, and.. not much else) to Brando's does NOT make it a ripoff. It's more like and homage.
I just saw it. I don't know why really. The only Unisol movie I cared for was the first. Why on earth did they even have to call this Universal Soldier and why did they have Dolph and Van Damme in it. It has nothing to do with the other movies. In all fairness none of the sequels have much to do with the first but this was just the worst. I have to give Hyams kudos for trying something different but it was mostly a sleeping pill.

If the director wanted to experiment and try something new than he should have tried doing it with another film, and not butchered the Unisol series right after regeneration had just revived it.
I don't see the relation with Total Recall, but I agree, it's a crap, the plot is so simple, with predictable , obvious and absurd dialogues. The script seems to be written by the tail of a drunken monkey in front of a keyboard.
An action movie with only 2 not bad action scenes, the fight with the plumber and the final scene.
And a terrible & irritant musical score, added with bad criterion in many scenes that needed another type music or no music at all.
Worst in the saga, and disappointing after the surprising 'Regeneration'. This awful movie makes 'The Return' a much better sequel to the first one 'Universal Soldier'

You didn't see enough boobs. That must be it. If only the blonde's position in the sex scene with the Black dude would have been reverse cowgirl instead of cowgirl.
