Do you think Megatron regrets killing Dreadwing...

...and sparing Starscream?

reply

I'm sure he'd gladly give Scream away in exchange for a new Dreadwing, but given that DW gave up on following the Decepticon cause, he wouldn't be of much use to him even if Megatron had spared him.

reply

Starscream is pretty useless too, though.

reply

True, sadly very true. Still, he at least tries and if the stars are aligned perfectly, every once in a while he manages to do something right. Had DW lived, he would have gone rogue following his disillusionment with the 'Cons. To Megatron, even a bumbling and arrogant oaf is more useful to keep than a traitor.

reply

But Dreadwing at least stated he wouldn't turn against the 'cons, even though he was disillusioned with them. Starscream has shown himself to be the treacherous one, but he's also turned into a hopeless coward who's lost any self-confidence.

reply

I feel awkward trying to defend the scene, because I hated how Dreadwing went down, but I can sorta understand Megatron's reasoning in that position -- DW disobeyed his direct orders and proved to be a menace by going on a vengeance-fueled rampage, while Starscream has pledged his allegiance to Megatron just a short while before, and I suppose Megatron thought keeping the weak SS under his rule would prove easier than reigning in DW, who's clearly made his decision by placing his sense of honor above Megatron's orders.

At the same time, I question Megatron's previous decision to allow SS back into his ranks in the first place.

reply

Megatron's reason sounded like it made sense at the time and Starscream and he seems to have scared the treachery out of him. The only snag is 'scream's aforementioned incompetence.

reply

I wonder... Megatron has beaten up Starscream pretty badly before, so much that he needed Knock-Out to attend to him and practically fell apart when trying to engage the Autobots. Maybe if they agreed to let Dreadwing do the same to him without killing him, they could have settled the matter?

Nah... I can't see Dreadwing holding back like that, not when Megatron has already welcomed back his twin's desecrater, thereby proving that he didn't share Dread's sense of honor.

reply

I felt that Dreadwing was a rather wasted character anyway. He was barely used at all during season 2 and apart from rescuing Megatron, failed at everything he did, and it was mostly due to stupidity. Killing him off like that just added insult to injury.

Has hoped that Dreadwing would have taken Optimus up on his offer to join The Autobots. He may still have been alive.
