If the father had been played by anybody but Brendan Fraser?

Would people he have been as sympathetic a character? He is just too likable a guy that it is impossible to stay mad at him or hate him. I feel like if the dad role had been played by a less likable actor that I probably would have been angrier at him.

I thought they miscast him too but more for his age. Doing the math he should have been 34 and he does not look 34! He actually was about 44 at the time of filming.

I don't understand why you people seem to be under the impression that the dad has to be unsympathetic, if he was as terrible as you suggest he wouldn't have let her stay with him and his family

Knowing she was a bit mentally unstable and very well could have stolen from them or worse

He did the best he could with the cards he was dealt

Have you ever stared fear and danger in the eye and said; YES?
