After the first ten minutes or so, I actually had to stop watching the film for a little while. I came back to it half an hour later. In my opinion, the overall film itself is a fairly bland revenge drama with unlikable characters, but that was easily the worst part for me. An untrained ten year old girl, relying upon her natural instincts, stabs her father's killer in the hand and then stages an escape which would put James Bond to shame.
It's one thing to say that a person is brave at a young age or that they have a natural aptitude for something. It's another to have Beethoven conduct a masterpiece before ever taking his first music lesson. Her parents were afraid and they had guns to defend themselves with. But she wasn't concerned by the several armed men surrounding her. No, she was just simply born the action hero.
This film is just one more example as to why I dislike the direction in which Hollywood has taken the action genre. It had a few good scenes, a few dramatic moments, a likable romance, and a charming and stunningly beautiful protagonist. I can't say a single good thing about a single action sequence though. I think she threw maybe one good kick or something. And to me, the final showdown was just a failed experiment in filming a new style of fight scene.
