It really doesn't matter how accurately this film portrays the French special forces. It's a film. It's an emotional film. It's a very emotional film. Get to the end without tears in your eyes and you're carved from stone. Well worth watching.

shareYes I blubbed, quite a lot. When Amin was killed. The village elder and men. Victor's death in the snow. Lucas's death, as his girlfriend was pregnant and at the end when the French return to find the final two survivors.
The biggest blubb was Elias's lonely death. The name Elias cannot have been incidental as he reminded me of Sgt Elias in Platoon who is cut to death by bullets.

I never felt any emotion for Diane Kruger's character what so ever. Thing is I am a fan of Diane Kruger and her movies. Infact the only two characters I didn't feel sorry for was Diane's character and the guy who had a crush on her in the squad. Those two were so predictable in that they would survive. I knew it long before the movie finished. It would have been a nice touch if they killed him off at the end so Diane's character would have been heart broken but she would have survived and gone on to tell her tale and many others as well.
The way they needlessly massacred half the squad was uncalled for. The only one I felt really sad about way the Sniper guy Elias and how he met his end. They could have had him escape but wounded or let him take some of them with him. Nope. No such luck. Elias is definitely the best of the bunch in my eyes.

I just watched the movie last night, my BF put it on before we were going to bed and I was so sucked into it that I couldn’t fall asleep. I most definitely had the water works on!! I was shocked to see what happened to the team itself but unfortunately it probably happens more then we realize.
It was really tough for me to see the outcome of Victor, Lucas and Elias but it shows how brave they were.

The same exact thing happened with my GF. I put it on shortly before bed while she was tapping away on her laptop for work. It sucked her in as well. It helped that she loves the movie Tears of the Sun.
I found some of the training and tactics a bit laughable, but forgave that because of the excellent cinematography and acting.
Internet courage is such a yawn.
