The Editor is a hack

This movie would have been a lot better with a competent editor. Horrible inter-cutting between scenes pointless speed up and slow downs. It came across as being edited by someone on crack, inside a sack filled with cats that had been tossed into a river.

Obviously you have personal experience of that, if none of editing a film.

Why do people always try to invalidate their own opinion with statements like this.

Because they are idiots whose mothers smoked while they were pregnant.

i lol'd and without seeing the movie, i can imagine exactly what he meant and how he finds it very annoying. i personally like movies that are edited like that though (only when im on crack though!).

reply

Don't watch many Tony Scott films, do you?

reply

As much as i don't condone his lovely ending statement, he is correct, it's very poorly edited, I think they attempted to put a new twist on it, but it just didn't work in the slightest, some of the conversations were very strobe like, flick flick flick for every word, unnecessary distraction that just annoyed me. This film could of been really decent with a better score and imagination.

I thought the score was good.

The OP is right at least for the 1st part of the movie.
Just look at the scene where Elsa seats at the table with Maina.
Fast and inconsistent editing for a scene that should be slow...

Google is your enemy.

I agree with the original poster - the editing (and overwrought score) ruined this for me. The film had no rhythm and what's up with the constant fade to blacks? Also, the stunt work seemed pretty poor. The way the Taliban soldiers were blown off their feet, doing these little backflips all the time.

reply

i was ok with the editing, it was the cheap metal score that annoyed me, other than that it was a pretty good movie,

reply

Pretty much agree: the editing sux

The director was also the editor...

I'm happy to see so many agreements with my beef with the editor here -- and appreciate the dig at Tony Scott editing techniques. IMHO not lingering over one second on a scene is supposed to make the viewer feel the scene is exciting, stuff is happening, even when nothing is happening but the conversation. As if the movie needs excitement, jumping, movement, when we'd really rather see a complete idea without seeing it from different angles. The chopping of scenes bothered me because the cinematography was really super -- foreign country, wandering around in mountains.
