Most of the troops had M203 grenade launchers attached to their M-16 style rifles but none of them used them. Probably the most needed time to launch a grenade seemed to be when the sniper was running from several Taliban combatants. Is there a tactical reason for not using them or is this just a choice of the screenplay's writer?
yeah I was thinking exactly that too when I was watching this movie! A grenade would've come in handy on MANY scenes!.. or why bother with the launcher if they do not have grenades? why make youe weapon heavier than it already is?
It's difficult to simulate firing a 203 round and get it to work right on the screen. That is my take on it. Most Special Operations Forces employ the 203 for defensive purposes specifically with smoke rounds for concealment and aid in breaking from contact.
You're taking a dump and they call GQ do you pinch it off or finish your business?
It would be from professional experience. I would suggest checking out video on youtube of real 203 shots. Its underwhelming. The sound is baffled and hard to capture on a microphone just like it would sound to the ear of the person pulling the trigger, just like any muzzle report is. Capturing the visual? Well there is none, no muzzle flash to speak of and the round reaching its destination doesn't create a fireball, more like a puff.

So you mean it is underwhelming on film. What you describe seems very easy to capture on film.
I've shot an m203 IRL before so I know what you mean. I think its still awesome IRL, FTR.
