Pretty terrible other than cinematography

So many Hollywoodish things in this movie it's laughable.
I'm calling it the French Missing in Action! with a black Chuck Norris!
The scene where they come out of the Kush Mountains and somehow the super villain Taliban leader and his men just happen to be in the exact spot in an area the size of Arizona??? Even if they knew the terrain they still were chasing on foot, unless they hoofed back to Taliban camp and hopped in jeeps. NOT! Lol
Great action, terrible plot and script. Nuff said

Action pretty much sucked also. All kinds of open space shootings and if there is a shelter then first jump out and then shoot.
Nice mountain shots though I'm sure they decided to climb a few tops to enjoy the view before they cross back to the same side lol...

spoilers!

Taliban teleport scene was only one of the holes. Movie slowly loses every sense of realism during the "friendly village" scene with special forces relaxing and chilling with natives. Spec.ops would never act stupid like that with 80+ ultra fanatic talibans 2 hours behind them.
Why did sniper guy sacrifed himself? He is been chased with last 10+ guys killed at the end. With proper ambush, they could finish them all in the village with 0 casualties. No use of covers, unlimited ammo, cowboy behavior, and much more. Last Spec.ops soldier died just for over-dramatic layer in already ruined movie. Cast did best with this horrible Script.

Seems like the land force version of http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421974/ "Sky Fighters/Les chevaliers du ciel". Means it is all about the cinematography, which is pretty darn good.

I also don't understand how they had no technology on all of them to be tracked by their extraction teams. Even if some of it was damaged, the others must have devices or laser pointers or something to draw the extraction choppers to them.

I can't answer what happened to all their equipment but the rendezvous, during which one helicopter was shot down, was the alternative spot after the first was cancelled from losing equipment. Therefore it seemed implicit that heading for Afghanistan was their best bet rather than staying in the wilds of tribal Pakistan. In that territory they seemed to have no equipment to call for rescue.

I missed where they explained how exactly the deserts of Afghanistan are better than the deserts of Pakistan. Why exactly was it a good idea to hoof it away from their AO OVER A DAMN MOUNTAIN to another desert. What did they hope to find in Afghanistan?

In the end the woman is saved by a random truck on a random desert. What? Just some french grunts freeballin' around the wastes with a truck? And afterwards she can pinpoint the location of the spec ops team from the air. She has magical skills in recognizing one pile of rocks from another.

For me the whole movie was completely ruined by the time they started climbing mountains and crossing them at 5000m. What did they eat? What did they drink? How on earth did they cross a mountain range between Afghanistan and Pakistan in under a day with no equipment?

And from where in God's green earth did the Talibs come from at the end? Did they just drive around the mountain? Seriously, I nearly shut down my Bluray player at that point. Only reason I kept watching was the satisfyingly fast way the main antagonist was disposed of. No gum flapping, no pep talks, no fuzzing around - just a shot to the head. And that's one redeeming quality of this movie - things happen satisfyingly fast and brutal.

There were allied forces, including French, in Afghanistan whereas the tribal areas of northern Pakistan were under Taliban influence. Geographically it made sense to head for the Afghan border rather than try to head back to Islamabad in Pakistan.

Yes she was quite lucky!

Their visit to the village was for supplies to assist them in their journey to the Afghan border. It took more than a day. The journey was suggested to be at least a week if not more.
And from where in God's green earth did the Talibs come from at the end?
They had transport, knowledge of the area and probably worked out that the special forces were headed for the Afghan border. In addition they would have had a network of spies some willing, others coerced.
Did they just drive around the mountain?
They probably tracked them along the ridge and then took an alternative route to confront them.

In addressing your Qs I'm not suggesting this film is fool proof in terms of credibility of the trek but that getting frustrated watching has meant losing some of the explanations offered along the way. This film is a good example of realism meeting idealism and if you are willing to suspend some of the realism for that you get a good tale. But many of the tactics are true to the French special forces, according the docu that was a DVD extra, which presumably you had on blu-ray. The idealistic part is believing they would survive with a female civilian in their care and yes her finding the two remaining soldiers at the end was pretty incredible!!

The movie was so stupid I was rooting for the Talibs at the end, just to end this fiasco.

Agree100% The cinematography was the only good thing about the movie. Everything else pretty much, Well You know....

I'm still thinking they probably predicted the shortest route through the mountains and drove to the other side assuming there is a road that that stays in Pakistan without crossing into Afghanistan. Though if she was captured in Afghanistan in the first place why was Afghanistan a safe haven at the end?

But then the massive plot hole would be if the terrorists drove there, where are their Jeeps that our heroes could have driven to safety in?

The terrorists did have several days while our team was in the mountains so they could have driven there but then they could have gathered a lot more men for the last battle.

This movie did not make the French special forces look cool the way Act of Valor made the Navy SEALS look cool.
