Stathams' accent appalling you must admit.

Jason Statham CANNOT do an American accent, it sounds forced, fake and embarrassing. This ruined the film for me along with a handful of other things. Surely no one can seriously think this guy can really act out an American character ??

How you want it dawg Closed casket? remember that fool in the wheelchair how you think he got there

He wasn't doing an accent! That's how he speaks!

Hahahaha! Nice one... i was about to type the same reply :)
Off subject... but this film is dubbed ain't it? Statham, was his usual self/voice, but all the other actors voices seemed dubbed to me. You or anyone else notice the same?
Cheers.

reply

Yeah, I completely agree, it's very cringe worthy.

reply

Having said that, good movie and the accent us only really terrible at the start.

reply

Because he's caucasian, he's assumed American?

The Mayor called in a debt from a source/headhunter to bring in a disposal expert. He could be from anywhere (on Earth).

reply

I only noticed he was attempting an American accent about halffway through. I don't remember the word, but he didn't drop the "r" where a Brit ususally would and I did a double take. But even then it seemed he only did the accent on certain words.

I love Jason Statham. I love everything he does, even his crap, I will watch anything he does simply because he's in it. I never thought about why a Brit would be a NY cop, it just didn't affect me.

That being said, can we please make sure he never attempts an accent ever again? Except Parker. That looks awesome.

It's an electric drill. You get me, you kill me!

reply

He was actually called in to work there, he never started his career as an NYC policeman.

And I didn't think he was trying an accent, sounded like regular Jason Statham to me.

Cor blimey, there's a Chinese gurl rannin' arand New fakkin' York. Wha' a muppet!

reply

I'm cringing just thinking about it.

Why does Hollywood do this? Why can't he talk with his natural British accent? Is it not sufficient enough for them? Besides the gravely thing going on makes him sounds more "badass". It's off putting and annoying that I have to worry about the next dodgy sounding mispronounciation. Don't ever, ever do that again. That accent was harrowing.

I also wish Jason use his british accent instead of trying american accent in his movies

It sounded like he was doing an american accent for the last 2-3 words each sentence.

I can't say I noticed him doing an accent at all!

reply

He sounded like a cockney (which he is) who'd lived in New York for maybe 6 months... possibly the worst fake American accent ever.

reply

The worst part about the accent is that it was completely superfluous. Would it have been so difficult to add one line of dialogue into the film? When the mayor was explaining his character, all that was needed was "Luke Wright was British BLANK; he came to the US for his wife." We never meet the wife, and it would have saved our ears from the god awful accent.

reply

I didn't realise he was supposed to be American for ages, literally half the words he says are in his native accent, he's officially taken the prize for worst American accent by a British person, previously held by Ray Winstone in Fool's Gold.
