When did the MPAA

start allowing full frontal male nudity in an R rated movie and what does it take to get an NC-17/X rating?

reply

It was rater R because the full frontal nudity was not suggestive in any way, shape or form. What about Schindler's List to name just one which was R rated. NC-17 is for extreme sexual content. What was so sexual about a bunch of nudists running thru a field?

reply

Quite the opposite.

And it has happened in the past. I don't remember the penis in Schindler's List but did think the sex scene was a little gratuitous, one of a couple problems I had with the film.

I know it has happened in the past, Crying Game was on of the first to come to mind but it seems to become a lot more prevalent, this movie, Hangover 2, Boogie Nights.

But I am pretty sure, suggestive or not, in the past a dong got an X rating.

reply

Clockwork Orange got an X rating too. People grow up.

You have a good point. Those are the MPAA rules, as far as I know. But nudity in the distance is sometimes allowed. The organ is fake, too.

This will answer all of your questions and muuuuch more. Check out an doc film called "This Film Is Not Yet Rated". All about the MPAA, and their ratings "system", how secretive they are about who the members are, and just what an odd bunch they seem to be.

It's a waaaaay stranger organization than I think most are aware of. I certainly don't care much for them rating what I watch, especially because they seem to not represent me or most people I know...

reply

acceptable for R rating by MPAA previous decisions.
limp penis, in non sexual seggestive situation. bared buttocks. hairy/out of focus vagina, bare female breasts. Merkins/artifical penis

Not acceptable.
erect penis. clear vaginal shot. spread buttocks, or vaginal lips.

Male frontal nudity is on SHOWTIME and HBO...and has been for some time...why not a movie.

reply

Showing the penis is disgusting and sick

reply

I think this is the exact reaction they were aiming for... your uncomfort (and the character's nonchalance) IS the comedy.

Oh, and BTW, the joke was meant for your girlfriend to laugh at your squeemishness.

Some might say Kaufmanesque.

reply

If the full frontal is a female + the act has a sexual undertone + the woman appears to have fun its automatically an NC17, if its actually an sex scene and again the woman appears to have fun and enjoys it, than it will be an X. Because there is something even more frightening to those impotent old geezers, than a couple of chainsaw armed hillbilly-cannibals, and that is a woman who enjoys sex. OMG!!

I've seen R-rated films with male nudity, although now I'm thinking about it, I can only think of one--The Reader, and it was a short clip, but it was there, nonetheless. Although I guess it wasn't during sex or anything, but it was supposed to be intimate.

Watch "The Piano".

There are a handful of films I can think of with male frontal nudity that are R rated.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Sideways
Adaptation.
American History X
We're the Millers
_______
The sun is shining... but the ice is slippery.

reply

Forgetting Sarah Marshall has an R-rating and there are a couple of scenes with male frontal.

Rated R? This has to be in America right? I think it's that Midwest bible belt that can't handle a dick in the face.
