Malcolm McDowell

I missed him entirely. I know he was "The Butler" but whose butler and when???

reply

He wasn't an actual butler, he was one of the actors waiting outside the studio building when Peppy came in and did her dance for the casting guy. Beforehand, she sat next to Malcolm McDowell, who was dressed as a butler, and showed him the newspaper with the picture of her and George in it. Malcolm was only in the film for a couple of minutes. He reminded me a bit of WC Fields for some reason.

He's one of those whose remembered image is perpetually young, as in Clockwork Orange and If. It's still a shock to see him old, white-faced and gray. And come to think of it he was a bit puffy in this movie, and with the hat, did have sort of a WCF mien.

reply

He was an oddly beautiful young man. It's strange to see him still very recognisably himself and yet so old. His career doesn't seem to have reached the dizzy heights I would've imagined.

reply

One of those whose career went from potential heartthrob leading man to respected older actor. Terrence Stamp is in the same category. Remember him in Billy Budd?

reply

I haven't seen "Billy Budd" for years. Terence Stamp was absolutely beautiful then. He still is now. I remember seeing him in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" and he was superb in that.

reply

Terence Stamp was so HOT back in the day, especially in The Collector & Far from the Madding Crowd.

Another, once HOT actor was David Hemmings.

reply

You & Ambrosia must not see much TV--he's had recurring roles in several shows in the last years. "Heroes" (GREAT!) and "Franklin & Bash" (less so) are two that come to mind. He still has the beautiful piercing blue eyes. As as far as the "puffy" comment...wait till YOU get older.

reply

Watch the extras on the DVD and you will see more of him

reply

Malcom McDowell was in this?C?an't belive I missed him.

reply

Didn't he receive a top billing? He didn't even SAY anything? Or should I say, lip anything?

What doesn't it take to get credited?

We're all in strung out shape, but stay frosty, and alert.

Considering the amount of junk Malcolm McDowell has been in in recent years, he should be glad that a two minute appearance in this has afforded him prominent billing in an Oscar winner.

In case I don't see you ; good afternoon, good evening and good night!

reply

It was a cameo. Very short. And they had him made up to look a bit older than he naturally did at the time....complete with gray mustache.
